the RX8 will feel no faster than your 160hp NX. It feels like an s2000 without Vtec, seriously lacks balls, but is still great fun to drive.

Gas mileage sucks, reliability is a hit or miss, below average build quality...

I went from 04 s2k to 06 rx8 to 02 s2k.

Didn't you total your 04 S2k?

The RX-8 drives just like an S2000 to me, so if you think an RX-8 "seriously lacks balls", I guess an S2000 "seriously lacks balls" as well? VTEC "kick" is just showing you how little power there is below VTEC, for an F20C engine. That lack of kick you feel in the RX-8 is called smoothness - the rotary engine is much more subtle than the 4 cylinder in the S. I guess that subtlety escapes you?

To the OP - if your car will be sitting while you're asea I'd be worried about the soft top and theft, unless its stored somewhere safe. An RX-8 is like a four-seat hard top S2000, so do you want a coupe or a convertible to drive?

Yep this is the real consideration. I looked at both and decided I'd prefer a convertible over having 4 seats. If you don't need the extra seats, the S2000 is an excellent car with good reliability. If you prefer having more versatility with luggage space and passengers, the RX-8 is a great option. Both are great vehicles for driving

Yes, the RX-8 is a great driving car, just as is the S2000, but the RX-8 is more forgiving at the limits - it will let you know better when you're about to lose traction, for example.

Neither car is a drag racer - they use relatively low torque, high rpm engines, so they shine in driving down twisty roads and redlining, not straight line drag races to 100kph. They are a blast to drive with 50/50 weight balance and a light on their feet feel.

If you have no family or kids, and storage, I'd get the S2000 - being able to drop the top and go for a drive is a great thing to do. The fact that it gets good mpg is a bonus. Rotary engines can be fussy, the S2000 is pretty drama free.

You're making far too many assumptions... I used that as an example to describe the power of the Renesis. At best, it makes 20 whp less than an AP1, and this is in a car that weighs a few hundred pounds more. The S2000 does suffer below 6000RPM indeed (stock anyway), but when you need the power at the higher rpm's, it's there. In the RX-8, it just isn't. The smoothness is a great thing, and the car itself is a blast to drive on a good twisty road. You can give it hell and drive like you don't know what you're doing, and it won't fight back, just like a miata.
