Default S2000 shares differential parts with Miata?

Honda also sourced the Mazda 7" rear for the S2000. The rear housing is different and the axles are larger so nothing is a direct interchange other than the ring and pinion gears. The Honda Torsen does have a clutch disk to preload the worm gear (the R type Torsen). If you adapt the larger S2000 halfshafts and stub shafts it is a nice upgrade.

The guy seems to know what he is talking about and somebody on miata.net enlightened me on this possibility.

Is this correct?

I believe Honda gets the 4.10 gears from Kia. Same place I got my 4.30's, and the same place Mazda gets most of their gears.

The gears are strong enough for off road vehicles with AWD that are much heavier than the S2000, so ...

Been running nearly 300 WHP thorugh my diff for quite a while now, and it's not a problem. CCR is also running four Miata's, with the weaker Miata pumpkin, at 200 WHP (about the same as a stock S2000 but greater torque) and running R compound tires, and the Miata diff is fine with the power and grip. I wonder how long the diff in my car or our Miata's would last in the hands of people who have found the S2000 differential too weak for the punishment they hand out. ???

IMO our diffs get a bad rap here because so many people abuse the car and then blame the car. Go to J D Power, where the sample space is unbiased, and show me some cars that have FEWER differential problems.
S2000 differentials actually seem to have a much better track record than the Ford 9".

Given equal treatment you'll see an equal number of failures.

I heard that S2k can use the RX-8 gear, is that true?

I'm not sure what's used in the RX-8, but this Web page has a ton of good info on the 7" gear sets.

FC TurboII diffs and FD diffs are pretty strong. Lots of people running as much as 350-400rwhp with no issues. Running more torque and HP on NA RX7/Miata open gear/LSD diffs are usually asking for trouble.

I worked for Delphi for 6 six years. Did you know you know some Ferrari's & GM trucks share some electrical & cooling system parts.
