I read in the 2002 S brochure that the seats are "leather trimmed" --

-- does this mean that the side bolsters are vinyl??

I have a '91 Civic and the side bolster closes to the door is ripped up from normal use -- NOT pretty -- with 146K miles on it --

-- and the seat was cracking at 48K miles, when I bought it -- mind you, the passenger side is fine, so this is due to normal wear and tear..

How can this wear be avoided in the future??

I believe the inside of the seat is leather, while the outside is Vinyl. The Vinyl pieces would include the back of the seat, the outside of the side bolsters. The bolsters are definitely leather as I'm seeing lines consistent with leather wearing on mine after 2 years.

Anyone know how to protect these cracks/lines that start to appear from getting in/out of the car? I notice that if I coat them well with the Meguires Leather wipes they almost disappear- but that lasts for only a few days. I've seen this kind of wear on old Corvette seats and its while some might say its character, I'm not sure I really like it.
