Default S2000 Slot Shifter?

I took my co-workers Ferrari 456GT for a spin the other day and was very impressed by the slot shift design. I was thinking it might be cool in a S2000. My brother says he could draw one up in Solidworks and have his CNC machine spit one out. I found some picks of the shifter console taken apart on Ricks site. I notice a thick black piece that would have to be taken off or trimmed down just above the inner rubber boot. Has anyone tried this and/or is there any interest in it? I am thinking it would be a pretty easy mod and provide a nice clean look. The slot piece would be made of aluminum and I think he can anodize it or plate it. Has this already been done?

Sounds interesting, but I think something to dress up the gear shifter would be necessary as well.

I'd like to see your friend try it out. Although I'm not so sure it would work because of the short shifter and very little room for actual metal to be inbetween each of the gears (1,3,5 and 2,4,6 & R). The gears on the F-Cars are little more spread out.

Also, Isn't our shifter pretty fat under the boot? Maybe it narrows down right before the console but if not, the slots would have to be very wide.

Dave,

Yeah its quite fat under there, but I think that piece might come off. I couldnt tell from the pics on Ricks site, otherwise a replacement piece would have to be crafted.

Schatten,

You might be right, we were going to take some calipers out to my S2000 to measure but we keep forgetting. It would have to be a certain thickness between the slots to maintain strength.
