When I traded in my Z3 for the S2K I was stunned when informed that my monthly auto insurance would jump from $60 a month to $200... ouch!

I shopped around and was informed it was because the S2K is a "High Performance" car in the same league with the Corvette, and that insurance rates were also based on the cost of the average nationwide claim. i.e., the S2K can be expensive to repair.

Because I seem to get one speeding ticket per year, I had been insuring my daily driver (Z3/S2K) on a separate policy from my wife's cars & our house. I was content just to live with the fact that I would have to pay a little more to enjoy the car.

Thankfully, our insurance agent cut me some slack and let me put the S2K on our combined umbrella insurance policy at about the same rate as the Z3. Both the insurance agent and my wife have warned me about the consequences of another speeding ticket; fortunately, the last ticket falls off my record in January, and I'm once again eligible for traffic school.

(Look at the least expensive to insure; could you imagine having to switch from the S2K to a Ford Taurus wagon?)

Exactly lol

Then it says "But a high rate is a red flag to ask a few questions. For instance, if a car has a lot of horsepower and is involved in a lot of crashes, that can also send insurance rates up, even if the car itself is relatively inexpensive. "

Its probably all those racers crashing into each other haha

Top Ten?
I don't think so, they never investigate supercars. So where does the list end? Was the new Z06 on the list? Or a Viper? I can't imagine those are cheap to insure.

My friend's dad pays less for insurance on the F430 than I do with my S, even though I have a clean record.

When i got my s2k and called my insurance company, they said they wouldn't insure high performance cars like s2k if i were a new customer. Since I've been with this insurance company for a long time and i have good driving record, and this is my second car (weekend car), they would add the s2k to the policy with a low rate. (it's like $1100/year for two cars, the other is an SUV). They warned me that if i got a speeding ticket, they might not renew the policy for next year.
