Dude just drive it back. Make a road trip of it, and have fun. That's why you bought the car right?

If it is new - highway miles aren't the best way to break in the engine.

Not sure what Barrett auctions or even HAGERTY classic ar insurance uses but maybe look into those companies to see who they use?

Horseless Carriage Carriers is the one that does nothing but enclosed trailers for high-end cars. They are expensive, but you typically get a pick up much quicker than the other carriers that do both open and closed carriers.

Bah, run it through the gears a couple times and it's "broken in." If he's really concerned about varying rpms, he can go back and forth between 60 and 90mph..

I'd say just do a road trip. You can do it in 2 days no sweat. You'll have to crash at a hotel for one night, but that's it.

I had my S shipped from Maryland to AZ with these guys.

http://www.trustytransport.com/

Same truck the enitre way, no loading and unloading several times. They even give you the drivers cell phone number. I called everyday for an update, he probably hated me . I even got the lower front spot right behind the cap so no bugs and crap! If you feel comfortable doing it they let the previous owner drive the car onto the trailer and then you drive it off, they dont even have to get in it if you dont want.

Cost from Maryland to Arizona was $770 if I remember correctly. Hope this helps.

Thanks for everyone's input. I contracted with DeMoise Trl-ing in Greer, SC. Came highly recommended, very responsive, excellent communication, family owned/run (drivers and dispatcher) company, price competitive (not cheap). Will pick up next weekend; deliver in 4-7 days on same trailer as loaded.
Dammitjim, Thanks for Concours Transport input. Made contact; very refreshing by being honest that his equipment commited for immediate time. Recommended Thomas C. Sunday Ttansport which I learned is a quality operation also.
BoostingAZ, thanks for suggestion also. Sound like Trusty did a great move for you.
Made contact with friend that collects very high end cars and has used DeMoise Trk-ing who I am using.
Chose to ship as wanted to save miles; new car can experience problems on long trip; didn't want to run long distance at steady rpms yet; didn't want to encounter weather (car never in rain yet); and, cost to fly out, lodging/meals several days en route, 1600 mi gas makes cost savings insignificant in relation to potential problems.
thanks for all input. Looking forward to becoming member of S2000 community. Now gotta change screen name from StL07S2K to StL08S2K.....had planned on an 07 rather than 08.
