s2000 video find
wait a minute... back up, back up, backup
anyone else noticed the s2000 had the WORST torque to weight ratio in that group, yet it destroyed the field by 2.5 secs a lap? ... i crunched the numbers (i'm a cpa, cant help it) and check this out (lower the # the better)
gti= 15.04
mini= 15.1
abarth= 13.665
scirroco= 14.48
s2000= 17.14
which got me thinking, how many other cars have a better torque to weight ratio(here in after tqw) and are slower
escalade= 12.5
and check this.... a MAZDA MIATA= 15.89, thats right a miata has a better tqw yet is way slower.
so now lets bring up all the cars that are faster and guess what?
370z= better POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO (here in after ptw)
m3= better ptw
350z= better ptw
lotus elise= better ptw
sti= better ptw
335i= better ptw
135i= better ptw
....you get the picture. ( they are faster because they all have a better ptw ratio)
so i went back and looked at all the s2000 dyno graphs posted on s2ki and i noticed something
80% of the max torque is actually available from 3000rpm, thats right, the torque curve is fairly flat, AND it produces about 180hp (at the crank) below vtec (6000 rpm)
so why does society keep saying the s2000 has no torque, i think its because
1. they look at the max torque # of 162 and say "oh thats small" without taking into consideration the aggressive gearing and light weight
2. the difference between vtec and non vtec mode is so stark that the area below vtec feels ... well, normal
next time someone (or myself) is at a drag strip run the 1/4 without vtec and see what time you get
im, guessing high 14's and trapping low 90's (assuming you dump the clutch at 5500)... not bad for a car with no torque
so unless someone can come up with a car that has a better tqw and a worse ptw and is faster than the s, my argument stands
S2000 has no toque... stop that, it ends here
hehehe

If anything, this video proved how GOOD the Mini Cooper is, considering the one in the video was:
1.)Automatic
2.)Had the nice, big, glass sunroof on top
A John Cooper Works Mini is on my short list of fun cars to acquire soon.
