Alright David M, you say they have the advantage in the quarter. I disagree. Post some times from a reputable source and I'll change my mind but come on dont go around saying it's faster w/out any times that are faster than 13.8

i was in a pretty similar situation about a month ago..boxster vs. s2k. well now that ive had my s2k for a month and 400 miles, im quite happy with my decision. i think if you compare the boxster to the s2k, then its a no-brainer (s2k hands down). however, the boxster-s is a different story. then again, you are talking a lot more $$$ over the s2k. after much research on the boxster and s2k, it came down to the best all-round package for the money -- sportiness, looks, performance, handling, etc. add to that hondas bullet-proof reliability, and the s2k is comes out on top for me. my next porsche will be of the 911 or 993 variety, and NOT the "drive it backwards or forwards"- look of the boxster. just my opinion, and good luck.

Unless boxter came up with a glass rear window, otherwise I would say go for the '02 S2000.

Strange that Motor Trends stats differ from Porsche...Personally, I could care less since I own neither of them, but would bet that if 10 different magazines etc tested each car, you'd find 10 different results. I'd have to see it before I'd believe that an s2k is faster than a Boxster S...one magazines word isn't going to convince me.

Things will get more interesting next year when the Boxster and Box S both get a 10-15 HP boost, possibly more.

Dealers are also selling them at an easy $3K - $4K under MSRP, although you really need to figuire in 2.5K worth of options just to get it to the level of the "sparse" S2000 (Cruise, metallic paint, CD)

What I find interesting is that Honda does everything it can to squeeze every last pony out of its motor, while Porsche intentionaly detunes their engines to "protect" the 911 mystique and sales. Porsche could easily get 300+ HP out of the S engine, and 250 out of the 2.7, but they choose not to.

S2000 all the way. For the price of the boxter s I would get a M Roadster and still have money leftover!

OK greeny488, here's two comparisions where they were compared directly against each other (ie. same time and place):

Road & Track test annual '01:
- 0-60mph = 5.5 vs 5.6 (S2000 vs BoxsterS)
- 1/4 mile = 14.1@99.6mph vs 14.0@100.5mph (S2000 vs BoxsterS)

Auto-Illustrate 2/2000:
- 0-100kph = 5.9 vs 5.9 (S2000 vs BoxstserS)
- 0- 160kph = 14.2 vs 13.7 (S2000 vs BoxsterS)
- 1000m = 25.8 vs 25.6 (S2000 vs BoxsterS)

As you can see, in each one the BoxsterS is slighly quicker. Have you got any results in favour if the S2000 when compared directly to the BoxstserS? If you do, can you post them ... I'm sure there are some I just can't get my hands on them this very second. Still, usually I see the BoxsterS being slightly quicker then the S2000 in terms of acceleration.
