From the sounds of things the S2K or the Fiesta ST is going to be just for fun and weekends.

Aslong as you have a fun daily I would go for the S2K every day of the week. I have recently put up for sale my track orientated hot hatch for my ap1 S2K and whilst I was infatuated with my track car I love the S2K for it's abilities.

You won't regret the S2K; it feels special all the time even in traffic or cruising through cities. Whereas a hot hatch like a FiST at slow speeds/normal speeds just feels like any other fiesta.

That said I do love the fiesta; but as a daily not as the second fun car.

I have a FoST as my daily driver, and absolutely love it. But our fun car is the S, I am never not smiling while driving the S. The FoST is still a Focus...the S is something special. Two very different driving experiences IMO.

As almost everyone here has said, get the S.... Once your DD dies, then get a FiST....

It would make a good bait car to catch car thieves.

As for the original post. I went for the S2000 over the WRX hatchback because I ended up getting a good deal, and then got hooked by the time I'd made it home with the car. I have two as I picked up a friend's last fall, and am having a hard time letting go of my first one. The reason I wanted a WRX hatch is I was looking for a do it all car, but if you already have a DD all the more reason to go with a RWD sports car as it offers the most driving enjoyment imo.

All good comments from everybody, thanks for the additional advice!

As some of you have said, when toodling around town both the FiST and the FoST will likely feel something like a regular Fiesta or Focus with stiffer suspension. This is a very good point, thanks for bringing it up.

The plan would be to daily the S, as well as use it the weekend car on some of the long highways and twisty mountain roads around where I live. The wagon would only come out when I need to move lots of stuff around. I'm glad to hear that some of you guys enjoy using your S as a DD, I appreciate the encouragement!

If you're looking to part with one, it looks like I'll be both in the market and around the Seattle area in about a month!

Damn; I just got rid of an 04 MSM putting down a top-shelf 300whp and was as reliable as a base model. It would literally make you breathless of driven properly lol. I just decided I didn't need it anymore and decided to move to another toy (the S is irreplaceable, it'll always be here). Sucks that this thread is so new (it was gone 4 months ago).

On that note, I highly recommend one of these:

It sounds like the prevailing wisdom might be to spring for a clean S now, enjoy the hell out of it, and continue using the wagon for hauling duties. Then when the time comes to replace the older wagon in a few years, a FiST or FoST could take its place. Best of both worlds!
That's exactly what I did. I was deciding between the S2000 and an E46 BMW 330i with the ZHP package. Bought my S2000 and two years later bought the 330i. S2000 4 years later with 28k more miles I can still sell for what I paid for it(though it's not going anywhere) and the BMW depreciated 4k in those two years it seems.

Dang! That is one good lookin' MSM. I don't think that I'm a good enough pilot yet for that kind of powah. Hopefully an S will get me to that point though!

Like you said in your original post, it's an apples and oranges comparison. The cars are so different in so many ways that it should be an easy decision. Plus, you already have a utility vehicle, so choosing the S2000 seems like a total no-brainer to me.
