M5 vs S2000 - just looking at all the numbers in the magazines, check out the speeds above 100km/h (or 60m/h) - M5 is in a different league here to the S2000 (if nothing else, look at the weight to power figures). S2000 is way out if's league at anything above 100km/h here. To 160km/h the M5 is good 1 sec in front and traveling good 10km/h faster.

Also, 0-100km/h sprints here always go in a 'huge' way to the M5 (even in the write-up). Fastest M5 here has been clocked at 5.2secs to 100km/h while the fastest S2000 has been clocked at 6.6secs to 100km/h. Also, the slowest M5 that I've seen here was 5.9secs while on it's best day I don't think that the S2000 can do even than number here. I'm sure that the S2000 can get closer to 6 secs here but the M5 will always be a lot quicker to 100km/h.

Last of all, I'm sure that the S2000 unlimatelly handles better and stops quicker than the M5. Though, look at the laptimes at Nurburgring - M5 is good 11secs quicker there (8:28 to 8:39). That is sheer grunt - the S2000 is 'only' 10 secs slower despite the grunt defecit.

ps. M5 is faster than M3 (not the brand new model). It's good .5 secs faster to 100km/h and at speed a lot faster than the M3.

OK, i'm "old", so i'll bite and preach. I also drive too fast - i'm speeding on a daily basis as are most other people - and have risen to the occasional bait. But never in traffic, only on open roads. There is simply no excuse for cutting in and out of lanes and racing in traffic. You may be good, but that lady with two little kids in the back won't see you coming. Sure, do some sprited driving, but choose the right time to do it. I'm sure you'll not like those words, but i'll happily repeat them to anyone who considers risking others' lives is OK.

Everyone, why do I never read any posts about someone having a great race through the twisties. This is the kind of place where I expect to hear we are all unanimous about how great the Stook is and not whether its faster 0-60 or 60-100.

What happens guys, do you just not drive on these sort of roads (in which case why the hell did you buy a Stook) or is it that no one wants to race you in the twisties (that I can understand). Even worse, is it that YOU don't know how to drive fast in the twisties or that all the lowering crap that you did to your vehicle means it can't handle fast corners any more.

Let's face it - corners are what the Stook is designed for - how come no stories??

As for myself, I'm happy to say that I never get beat in twisties (I do at least one 15 mile drive a week through the hills and at least 3 times a week I take the 2 mile drive down along the river (nice and curvy) on the way to work).

I NEVER get beat and to tell the truth I very rarely race anyone (probably because there's not many mad bastards like me on the road).

As for VTECing at stop light grand prixes or trying to chase someone down the freeway - sorry boring - I would have bought an LS1 GM vehcicle if that's what I wanted.

Hi 2kturkey - very true about the twisties. Who cares if a car will blow away the S2000 from the lights ... especially if it can't get around a corner or stop. True performance is about the marriege of power, handling and braking. All these things need to be balanced otherwise it's not much of a sports car.

Ideally, if you're after a sportscar, you want a car that that does all 3 things the best - though then you better start looking at Porsche GT3 or F360 Ferrari ... both of which I'd be more then happy to claim as my own :-)

it is very possible the guy was already in 3rd gear at 40mph, and that is the only thing that saved the S2000 from getting completely stomped.?

My experiences on side-by-side racing.

My Typhoon vs my dad in the S2000. If we tried a 25mph rolling race, i killed him because he wasn't about to "downshift into first". by the time the S2000 got moving, i was on down the road.

at 45mph and him in second, he still got beat until about 60-70mph when my typhoon becomes an aerodynamic brick.

Scot

ps... the typhoon is a good bit slower than a M5, so you make the conclusion.

Right, why should we care about the drag racing capabilites of the S2K, as if it was some hunk of Detroit metal? It wasn't designed for those "who's dick is bigger" contests that seem to be an obsession of adolescent males. If we are obsessed with flat-out, stright line speed, we bought the wrong car .

I agree that racing in trafic is stupid - give me a nice clear twisty road anyday.

Sun was out today and I went round my favorite clifftop road - Wow it's great - now if only there were no tourists on the road

Keep it reving

Rick, this is completely idiotic. the main subject of this message was strait line performance therefore we are talking about S2000 attributed on a strait line. I don

I am sorry guys, but i have to disagree on this one.

Straight line racing is not even close to as dangerous as racing on corners.

I have seen many cars spinnout and crash badly into walls. Only once have i seen a straight line race go bad which was when a highly modified mustang gunned it next to my friends AWD Talon turbo and spunnout into the wall...

The point i am raising here is. YES i do occasionally bite and race straight line on the streets on a CLEAR road, but you will NEVER catch me racing through any twists. I keep those for SOLO 2 and track days.

Take it easy.
