S2000 vs. Miata
How many of you guys/girls out there in S2KI land are annoyed at the fact that the s2k is being compared/mistaken for a friggin miata...whilst at the same time the miata is undoubtedly being raised up on high by being mistaken for an s2k????....i know i think that kinda sucks..dont you?
ignorance (lack of knowledge) is something we can't avoid. Being compared to a miata does suck, so does saying our car looks "cute" and things of the like. Just know that your car is bad ass
Why would it bother me being compared to the car that reinvigorated the Roadster movement? If it weren't for the Miata we wouldn't have the S2K. I hope you're not throwing out flamebait because I know that most S2K owners have a high regard for the Miata. BTW, have you ever been on a race track with a Miata with a good driver behind the wheel?
Miata and race track......
But the answer is no to the question. The Miata is not exactly aimed towards performance, as to where the S is. I think the newer Miatas look good, mainly because it has similar lines to the Rx-7 and the 16 inch wheels look like 18's on that small of a car.

Being a car enthusiast, the car-ignorance of the general public is annoying to me, but completely understandable. To many, a car is just transportation, nothing more, nothing less. The Z3, Boxster, SLK, and Miata look nothing like the S2000. In fact, in my eyes the only exclusive features that they share are that they are convertibles, and are about the same size.
I like the look of the newest ('01+) Miata. It is also an extremely capable car given the assertion here of it being a "looks-only poser" roadster. True, out of the box it is not as serious of a performance car as the S2000, but the aftermarket support is substantial to basically meld your Miata from a boulevard tourer to a serious weekend bare-bones track car. In addition, the Miata is blessed with lightweight, something I wish Honda could have done with the S2000. At around 2300 lbs. it is a hefty 500 lbs. lighter than an S2k. Also, the convertible top is better designed with a large glass rear window with defroster.
Performance wise in stock form the S2000 dominates the Miata in every category. This past weekend I was driving the S, with my bro' in an '01 Miata, on a curvy mountain pass. The S2000 just plain leaves the Miata for dead on the straights and in the bends. Where the S2000 is just sandbagging it, the Miata was pressed hard just to keep the shiny twin exhausts of the Honda in sight.
SIDENOTE: The amazing thing was the # of E46 M3's I saw. I must've seen at least 4 of them on the highway, but unfortunately they were all heading the opposite direction.

I own an S2000 & a Miata. While the Miata is no where near the S2000 in terms of performance, it is still a great fun car to drive. And if it wasn't for the Miata, I don't think we would have the s2000 today.
As far as I am concern, being compared to a Miata is about the highest compliment I can receive. The lines of the Miata is sleek and smooth from bumper to bumper. Whereas our S has a more aggressive look (bulging fenders and sweeped back headlights) the Miata is understated elegance, which I actually prefer. I saw a gorgeous yellow Miata the other day and i couldn't take my eyes off it. If only I could fit in it properly I would probably be driving a Miata instead. Nothing against the S, of course.
I have no problem with the comparison... you will probably not find more loyal owners anywhere!! Not to mention they seem to spend their weekends autocrossing instead of... clearing, shaving and making em' glow with neon.
