Well, it turns out that there are these 2 people at work who are doubting the abilities of the S2000 at our local track. Being sure of the car's capabilities, I am sensing no problem defeating a '99 Mustang GT (stock)or a '94 300ZX Twin Turbo with 86,000 (with some welfare exhaust). Just to make myself feel a little more confident (not that I am not too much already)I was wondering everyone's take on the situation.
Oh, btw, I have the updated clutch assembly, so no grinding or clutch slippage will (hopefully) happen. And, the track is saturated with VHT, so breaking my wheels loose shouldn't be that much of a concern.
Did I forget to add that the Z car is willing to give me a headstart (1 car) and is going to have another person in the car? Yep.
Hopefully my time at the track in the past will pay off. If not, these non-seasoned track wannabes are going to have a field day with me. Their brute power will hopefully fall victim the the grace and poise of the S2000. So if anyone has any tips for a good 'ol fashion Grudge Match between 3 fools (me included), please post.
Thanks.

I would not miss any shifts... and make sure that Z car is not modded... that being said, I have rather informally taken several GT's, would have to guess they were stock. I also managed to pull(I personally would never have believed it had it not happened to me.) a Z-28 in 3rd and 4th(I quit @ 120mph) after he was glued to my ass through 2nd.

Which track will you be running? Does it have a web site? I bet just looking at the nature of the track will give you a pretty good idea of who will wipe who. Post a web site for the track, that would be awesome...
I would suggest that you put some race brake pads in at least the front...that will make a big difference. Also make sure to have replaced the brake fluid with some DOT 4. Seriously, good brakes will help you take seconds off your time, especially if it's a tight twisty course. Take the spare tire out, it weighs more than you think.
And don't take the 1 car head start. That's gracious of the Z to offer that, but you should lose or win according to the same standards, IMO.
Hmmm, what else?
Let me think...
You'll do fine, just relax, be smooth and you will at LEAST hang with these guys. I won't be surprised to see when you post that you beat them...go get 'em!

looking at the old 300zx's numbers they were ruffly about the same as the s2000.. around 6second 0-60 and ruffly 14.0 quarter. i've heard they get tail happy easily.. but he may have an upgraded suspension.. but taking out the GT and zx can be totally driver dependant. i would be careful though.. if the 300zx smokes you its very likely he's done more mods then he lets on.. sense stock they are pretty close. my friend informed me that its really cheap to upgrade an old zx to around 450hp from 300hp. i really wouldn't worry about the GT on the track unless you seriously doubt your driving abilities or its been heavily modded.

Oh, and as for the Z-car's mods... the guy is a good friend of mine. He has an exhaust (that I've never heard of and I'm a car guy and he isn't) and some open-air element in the engine bay intake.
And, just to restate, it's at the drag strip. Auto x-ing would be a no-brainer.

Ahhhh, 1/4 mile, eh? That's a little different.
Here's my advice...forego the water to do a burnout. Unless you are practiced, you may not get all the water off the wheels and you will spin spin spin all the way through first gear. But if you are comfortable with burning out, spin 'em till they smoke! Otherwise, just drive around it to stage...
Do a hard core clutch drop. 7k is good. And push the clutch in and put the tip of your shoe on the very bottom of the pedal and when that light turns green, just slip your foot down about 3/4 of an inch and have the revs at about 7k and hold on. I have found that trying to do a true sidestep is hard since those rubber nobbies are so grippy...use your toe, it works quite well!
Hmmm...does that help?

Drag racing? You mean pure straight line acceleration? I thought the S2000 sucked at that?! Our car is best against those beasts on the curves, not the straightaway. What makes you feel you can out drag race a V-8 Mustang? I thought they could knock out 5.5 second runs all day long?

I have beat V8's on the 1/4 mile before...it's most certainly doable. It just takes a little technique. And not even that much, just a few basics...it's easier than most people make it out to be.
