I would go with the Cayman over both of those cars in a heart beat. Of the two left, I would pic the S simply because the nose of the Z4 is hideous. Now if they would put the body of the Z3 in the chassis, suspension and running gear of the Z4, that would be a different story.

I am new around here and very much interested in this comparison conversation. I am a long time Honda/Acura fan and just started looking for this type of car.
I know there were chnages from 2003 to 2004 in the S2000. What in particular makes you have this tag:

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!

Curious.
Thanks

Its a joke -- The 2000 in S2000 is in part from the 2.0L engine in the car. When Honda changed the engine to 2.2L, many members felt the car should have been changed to the S2200.

Kind of like how the G35 = 3.5L engine, the new G37 = 3.7L engine ... BMW 325 = 2.5L, 330 = 3.0L ... 335 = wait that one doesnt fit ...

Hey guys thanks for your insights. I appreciate your points of view.

I would go with the Cayman over both of those cars in a heart beat.

I almost did since the ride is so awesome, but the idea of driving a car without a roof that could not open didn't appeal to me. I expect that most of you agree with me since you bought a roadster.

Seriously though, if you're so high on the Cayman S, why not the Boxster S? Most everyone here pretty much concedes the current Boxster S as being one of the best roadsters ever.

If I went just by performance and price, the Boxster S is a clear winner, but design comes into play and I just don't like the looks of the rear end of the Boxster. As a matter of fact if I bought on looks alone, I'd buy the S2000 because IMO it's the best looking roadster out there, especially in that price range.

If you really have got the need for speed, you can get your go-fast straight line acceleration with a supercharger from Vortech

Speed is important but not critical. Also, to me any good sports car is a perfect blend of suspension/power/braking, and I'm not in favor of making any mods that would destroy that harmony.

I really enjoy the styling of all 3 roadsters you mentioned, and they're all styled VERY differently. 2 classicly styled roadsters, and 1 iconically styled.

Enjoy your test drives this week, it should really be eye-opening. The cost is so substantially different, and the cars should be substantially different as well, that it should make it easier to decide which one you want. Try to drive the S2k first, then the BMW. When driving the BMW, ask yourself: Is this worth the extra $16k?

Oh, and when you take the S2k out for a spin, be sure to let it warm up before you leave the lot, and then don't hesitate to make a couple rips up to redline... preferrably 2 or 3 in a row . It's addictive. THEN... go find a curvy road

That's just part of the story behind my sig. The first part is that EVERY year we hear that THIS is the final year of production for the S2000. I decided to end the debate with the correct answer. Plus Honda already had the tradition of changing the name of the car when they changed the engine size back in the 60's: S500= 500 cc's, S600= 600 cc's, and S800= 800 cc's. Doesn't seem to difficult to me.

..and in the voice of the immortal Paul Harvey, "Now you know the REST of the story."
