S2000 vs Z4M Roadster
I would actually advise a Boxster S which delivers on all of your desires except a high revving engine (like the Z4M and S2K have)
You said you don't like the looks, OK, that's fine, but at least it is very aerodynamic (UNLIKE the z4m), giving it an EPA estimated 28mpg hwy.
It's also very practical, having TWO decent sized trunks for storage.
Top doesn't store in the trunk either (The Z4's top does...The s2k's does not :-) and can be put down at up to 31mph.
Well, I think this is the car you're looking for that offers everything you want.
If not, then you have to consider that the S2K and Z4M are very different cars despite their similar dimensions. They differ in their purposes.
Both have high-revving race inspired motors, but the S2K begs to be beaten on to remain in the power band. The Z4m has a similar power band, but has so much extra power that it can be tame at lower RPMs.
I personally like beating my cars (hence, I love s2ks), but you don't seem like you do. (maybe I'm wrong)
I almost get the feeling you like comfort over sports cars. If this is so, maybe you should consider an SLK350.
But the bottom line is... What do you drive for?
Speed? Thrills? Top-down cruising? Around-town commuting? Taking the car to the limits?
Ask yourself that and then I can answer the question better

Huh?? Fall apart on the highway? Better have your ride looked at imo. I find the S2000 rock stable at speeds over 110, with the top down! Wouldn't even consider the Z4 at 16000 more. But, of course, to each his own.
Maybe his car has the spring spacers still installed! My car seems extremely stable at highway speeds. In dry weather, I have never had any concerns driving the car fast on the highway.
Its definitely not the best car for highway cruising because of the gearing (running @ 3500rpms in an AP2 at 80mph for hours on the highway isn't exactly the most comfortable thing). But, this isn't a luxury sedan, its a roadster!

I've been considering an S2000 off and on for the last few years. I came really close to buying a Porsche Cayman S with the chrono package, but I just couldn' t see myself owing a car without it at least having a sunroof. Since I don't particularly like the design of a Boxster, I decided to take a hard look at the S2000 and Z4M Roadster.
There's a BMW Dealer near me with an '06 Z4 M roadster that the salesman said I could buy for $48K. I imagine that I could buy a new S2000 for around $32K. So for the extra $16K I get a car with a lined top and almost 100 more HP. With the S2000 I get a car that handles as well as anything out there, has about the best gear box available regardless of price, and IMO looks better than the Z4. Although I've never owned a Honda, no manufactgurer has a better reputation for making quality cars that last forever and aren't that expensive to maintain. With gas prices approaching $3 a gallon in my area, the better gas mileage of the S2000 is a plus. The only other advantages of the BMW is that they offer a 4 yr/ 50K mile warranty and free maintenance for 4 yrs/ 50K miles.
I'll be test driving both cars this week. If anyone has something that they would like to share to help me make my decision, I would appreciate it.

Both great cars, you honestly can't lose either way.
Z4M/M coupe is one of the few cars that catches my eye all the time, but I can't/couldn't afford the price difference. Comparing the S2k with a BMW M isn't really fair (150% price difference), but it depends on what you're looking for:
Luxury/status/comfort/frills/power all go to the BMW.
The S2k however has the 1 thing I was looking for: FUN.
Good luck

I am a big BMW fan, and in the race track I go to, the S2000 beat a Z4M by about 1 second. Although the S2000 do have coil-overs on, and the Z4M is completely stock! I drove the S2000 and the owner of the Z4M drove his car...i think the driver is pretty good too because he used to have a 911 Turbo (993) and turned out decent laptimes on that car!

Funny how you mentioned that. I actually like how the shift knob vibrates in the S2000 ... feels more raw
