The S2000 has the "slickest shifter on the planet," to quote Car and Driver. It would be a shame to replace it with a automated gearbox, and diminish the driving experience.

Now, what I really want from Honda is improved steering feel (I want the wheel to come alive, and transmit what the front wheels are doing), and a fixed hard top.
And well said!

I think the S2000 cockpit, with all the F1 inspired tidbits, would look absolutely PERFECT with a pair of paddles behind the steering wheel. Anyone wanna photoshop somethin on the wheel?

I can't tell you how disappointed I was to see that 99% of Ferrari F430's are sold with the SMG. Yes, it's faster, easier to drive, and they work well! But, I would much rather feel in complete control of the car with NO drivers aids because, to me, a raw driving experience is so much more satisfying. It may not be the fastest way around a course but at least it's me driving the car and I don't feel like I'm along for the ride. That's why cars like the Ferrari F40, FD RX-7, Lotus Elise/Exige, and S2000 are SO attractive to me. No traction control, no SMG, etc...it's raw and wonderful. Granted, I'll keep my ABS just cuz it's not a track-only car but if it was I'd have no power steering or ABS either.

That's just me...I think I'm a bit of a purest but I can definitely see the attraction to the flip side of the coin.
The S has a syncro gear box = any fvcktard with basic eye hand coordination can shift these things

(want to be a "Purist" use a non syncro gear box).

It has power brakes.

It has ABS.

It has power steering.

It has a power top.

It has power windows . (WTF we can't reach over?)

Quit kidding yourself it's no bare bones sportscar.

id take a manual and a SMG just for those days in traffic. if people want a raw powerful sports car that makes you feel very connected. then an EVO is for you.

SMG, yes. Cars have had a clutch for over 100 years , time to evolve. (big plus left foot braking like my kart). Paddles shift faster, faster on the track.

Brake bias valve option , ABS as a option for the great unwashed.

Lose some fvcking weight, at least 500 pound drop. Feels like a bus at the track.

Built in Nav, with top speed maximum indicator (cuts down on BS claims), lap timer, G-force record (maximum corner and braking G's, no need for accl. G record with it's pitiful torque).

That will do for a start.

I'd get the paddle shifters if the SMG was on par with that of the F430 or the new one that BMW is coming out with. But I'd need the 9000RPM redline back. And I'd need it offered in "race trim" where there is no interior save the dash and driver's seat, no top, no spare, no tools, etc etc. That would be a fun car.

And if you've never driven an SMG (in race mode, and driving hard) then you really have no idea what you're missing.

Also, in "auto" mode it isn't anything like an automatic and would probably be more of a pain in the ass in traffic.

lol...dude, what are you arguing? That I'm not a purist because I've chosen a car that has power brakes?

a) maybe you should consider an Elise?
b) VW's DSG feels just like an auto in auto mode - it's the best of both worlds IMO.

If you folks havent driven a new GTI SMG, go drive one and see for yourself. Yes, blipping the throttle for perfect downshifts under full braking is an art form....but when you see it for yourself in the VW, its absolutely beautiful. Its amazing what computers do nowadays.

Now, if they offered a SMG in a more race trim like a Ferrari Challenge Stratadale, THAT would be sweet! Maybe a special F1 model or something.

Sadly I would highly doubt Honda going this far....the whole profitability would go down the tubes since the S2000 is a low volume high margin product anyways, people are still buying them up. You hardly see more than a few S2000s on a lot for more than a short period of time.

Anyways, I kinda have this modded on my Audi. Its just the tiptronic controls, but the "fun" factor of F1 is there.
