I have the GTS and there's no way the Celi can do 13.9, even if it is stripped with the basic mods. The Celica is 2500 Lbs, were did you get that info ? My Celi seems way heavier than my S.

The Celica GTS and the S2000 aren't close in their performance, ask me how I know this based on track and autocross experience.

azndrunkyoon said earlier: (with corrections and additions)
===================
celica weighs in at 2500
we weigh 2850
celica's hp is at 180 (at the crank)
ours is 200 to the wheels

One power figure is based on power at the crank while the other is at the wheels. The Celica puts down ~50hp (give or take) less at the wheels than an S2000 does at the wheels. The tried and true method of using power to weight ratios will demonstrate that the S2000 in OEM trim has the edge over the GTS.

Normal convertibles are often plagued with increases in weight and suffer from structural strength deficiencies versus a closed top vehicle, however the S2000's high x-bone frame restores the rigidity and stiffness found in closed-roofed cars in an open car chassis. I've found that the S2000 has one of the stiffest chassis I've ever driven, to include my earlier (modded) cars.

14.2 in a GTS with those mods isn't going to happen. I know of a modded GT (not GTS) owner who has a supercharger kit and his best time to date is 14.9x. Silvers808 is perhaps the most experienced driver at the drag strip in the S2000 here on Oahu, and he managed an impressive back to back 14.3 runs and from what the local peeps tell me, he can drive considering he was nipping at the heels of a Mugen equipped (ecu, cai, header, straight-pipe, single-out exhaust) S2000 in his "stock" ride.

I wonder if the feeling you have regarding the Celica's weight has to do with the suspension feel of the car. If you take 2 cars, 1 with a more rigid suspension and one that's floaty, the latter would seem to feel heavier than the first.

For the non believers... http://www.newcelica.org/other/tracktimes/...hp?sort=quarter
There has been quite a few celicas to run mid-low 14s with just bolt ons and tires.
Ex celica owner,

Toyota's site says the GT-S weighs 2500lb for 6-speed and 2580 for automatic. I find it hard to believe the car is that light also, being a hatchback having a backseat and all, but I guess it does. I had a 1990 Nissan 240SX hatchback and that thing weighed in at about 2900lb with a manual tranny.

like others have mentioned, i strongly believe the increased chassis rigidity is where the 'extra' weight went

I dont know about all the weight, but im an ex GT-S owner, and i have a friend now who has one with intake exhaust and wheels, and he runs a high 14 i believe, but hes got some really expensive tires on his. I'm an s2k owner, and ive taken a ride in his and then given him a ride in mine, and there is ABSOLUTELY NO COMPARISON as far as handling, and speed!! the GTS may have 180HP, but its only got 130 torque!!
