I'm considering buying a new car and I'm really big on design as well as performance. I like the S2000 styling but have been reading a lot about the low torque blah blah blah. With the WRX's out of the box performance, I'm stirred but the exterior is just... well an acquired taste I haven't acquired yet... Anyone share the dilemma?

In the dry the base WRX will just about keep up with the S2000,

0-60 5.7s
0-100 16.9
141mph all out.

in the wet the WRX will murder it, no question.
The STi version, 276 BHp officially, but reliable word is it has 350 BHp, will have it for breakfast in ANY situation apart from two,

1) how quick you can lower the roof,

2)how much better looking the S2000 is.

If you are seriously considering 4WD ,wait for the Mitsubishi EVO7 due in November in the UK, it is said even to be better (performance wise) than the STi, and it is better looking. (IMHO, from test in AUTOCAR UK mag).

I actually upgraded from a 1998 WRX to the S2G. They're worlds apart. The WRX's chassis design out of the box is no where near as responsive as the S2G. The level of engineering and refinement in the S2G is miles ahead of the WRX. Although, if you want that serious push in the back (Torque), the WRX will satisfy. But if you want to extract the limits of the S2G get ready to have some serious fun. This thing sounds quick and is quick. It easily clibs through the revs eating the next gear a spitting it out. When your doing 9000RPM in 4th and clearing 170km/h+, the S2G feels and sounds like a race car. The WRX feels like a familly car with a Turbo.

It your choice. But I'm in love with my Yellow VTEC missile.

That's not entirely correct ... may seem so on s 1st glance of the magazines but if you read further - you will notice that the WRX crosses the 400m mark doing about 150 - 155km/h - that is good 10km/h down on the S2000. Also, if you look at the accelleration times, you'll notice that by the time the WRX reaches 130km/h, the S2000 will be doing 140km/h. WRX's 'specialty' is the way it launches of the line ... it takes off real quick and covers ground real well. Though, while moving the WRX is always slower (I'd say noticably slower) than the S2000 (in power band).

Also, interstingly enough, ever since the Type-R Integra was released, all the articles claim the type-R's handling is superior to the WRX. Not only that, but the Type-R outruns the WRX in the wet - I read that now in at least 4 articles and it surprisses me to no end - but there must be some truth there concidering I read it a few times.

Last of all, I have a friend with WRX so I'll do some test with him and the S2000 as soon as I get the chance - will post my findings when I got some.

G as in grand, as in a thousand. It s the old way of saying one thousand before us computer types changed it to k for kilo.

S2G = S2000
