It seems the S2000 is being used as a yardstick to compare other cars. I came by a discarded Road & Track magazine (Mar 01 issue)on an airplane. There is an article about the Mitsubishi RPM7000, the Nissan Z, and the Mazda RX8. Both the RX8 & Z articles refer to the S2000 (as in: "Don't expect the Z's acceleration characteristics to be like those of a Honda S2000", & "The RX8's power delivery was similar to that of the Honda S2000".)

I also saw a newspaper article about the Mercedes sports car. The article said it was a car for "Grandfathers with slippers, not like the S2000 which requires you arrive everyplace full of grit & deaf...", or something to those words. That last little bit was, by the way, complimentary.
I love it!

Anyone else notice any other articles referring to the S2000 when reviewing another car?

Jim-

You don't mean yardstick as in corporal punishment, do you?

Hehe... I didn't think so... but in that sense, the S2000 does "whip" alot of cars out there...

I read most of the major mags that come out and the new crop of Japanese sports cars are directly compared to the S2000 because they all have about the same horsepower at the $30,000 range. More said, it is my belief that it is the S2000 that has inspired the Japanese sports car renaissance. some might say the Miata but the Miata was out for 11 years before this huge rush of new "super powered" sports cars and the S2000 was not built in tradition of the Miata but in the tradition of the Boxster and Z3. It just happens that the Prototypes for these new cars come out a year and a half after the S2000 has been embraced by everyone.

On a bit of a negative note (or not), if you go to the forum for the Vipers Club of America, there was a complaint submitted by a prospective Viper buyer. He thought the MY2003 Viper was designed as though someone took the blueprints of an S2000 and blew it up to 125%. Some guys liked it, some didn't. ps. Some of these people have way, way, way too much money.

Hope it works. Computers and I don't always see eye to eye.
