A safe car is one where the car is designed to absorb as much of the damaging impact from an incident as possible so that the driver & passenger(s) are not injured. In what we have seen over the past 2+ years, almost all accidents reported have been oines where the occupants were able to walk away with littel of no injuries. There were a couple severe accidents reported that were not so fortunate, but even then the cars did a tremendous job of absorbing what it could.

Environmental factors such as idiot drivers do account for a higher level of attention from the drive, but I find this is automatic in most good drivers.

Regardless of how you got to your conclusion that the S2000 is unsafe, if you are truly uncomfortable with the S2000, defintiely look for something else. But if what so many ozwners have seen and experienced is true, then this car is pretty damned safe and i would have no hesitation driving it all the time carrying my loved ones as passengers.

Safer than the Jeep Cherokee according to a European crash test. Not as safe as Mercedes C class however.

Actually, in the tests that I've seen, the only poor marks for the S2000 had to do with 'pedestrian safety'. So...you may fair well if you hit another car, but if you bump someone walking down the street, he's had a bad day.

Off topic: BTW, it's strange that if you run a spell check on your post, 'S2000' isn't in their dictionary. Ironic, huh?

CosmosM3 the s2000 is probably the safest convertible made, excluding maybe a volvo or the new audi a4 convert. Just because a car is small doesnt mean that it isnt safe, there are many ways to look at this, a safe car could be one that can avoid an accident before it happens, like the s2000 or a car with all-wheel drive(more stability and traction). And as mentioned before a safe car is one that can take the impact therefor protecting its passengers. Japenese cars are some of the safest cars on the road today, so its no surprise to me that the s2000 has done so well on the crash tests. As far as your remark about stupid drivers and suv owners/drivers, I think that your mentality of they wont be able to see me so im not buying one is stupid. This is the same kind of mentality that suv drivers have and I hate it. I wish suv's never became popular, I say this because some people have a legitimate use for an suv, others are just idiots. Did you know that like 85% of all suv's never see dirt in their entire lives, and the rest of us have to breath all that pollution and help pay to repair roads because of these overweight boheamith POS's. And they are not any safer than your average car, actually an suv will probably do worse in a rollover accident than the s2000, because it wasnt designed for that. So if the reason that you wont buy an s2000 is because you are worried that soccer mom wont see you, then be like all the other idiots and buy an suv.

The S2000 is as safe a convertible as any others.... I live in TENNESSEE, and the people here really can't drive..... Well okay, just the one's that come to town outta the hills once a week, but it makes a difference! If you're a good driver, don't worry about the 'what ifs' ........ like Nike's slogan, "JUST DO IT!" 'nuff said

I hit a deer at 70 mph. $3000 damage. A ford explorer hit the same deer, totaled the car.
