Helly everyone. I love the S2000 for what it is. A pure, precise sports car. But the fact of the matter is, I live in Los Angeles and there are a lot of idiot drivers out here. That being said, I'd decided not to purchase an S2000 because of safety issues. From what I hear and from what I've seen. S2000's are very unsafe as far as collisions are concerned. Obviously it's a small car at 2800lbs and not easily seen by other motorists... especially in SUV's (which we seem to have a lot of in southern california). It's too bad. I really had my heart set on this car but, but I cant seem to let myself fall behind the steering wheel of an S because of those reasons. But like I said... this is what i've heard and seen, and what i've seen isnt much. Apparently there are no crash tests performed on the cars... but I have seen shots of S2000's that were in accidents and it wasnt pretty. Anyone have any factual information on the cars safety ratings that they could provide or experiences they want to share... would be great. If not, the search for a new car begins today.

There are a lot of great cars on the market. I'm sure you'll find something that better suits your needs.

I say get the car and take your chances. I got into a head on collision and walked away. My airbags did the trick.

 

I understand your concern but don't understand how you've reached a conclusion that it's unsafe. There have been accounts of enough serious accidents that people walked away from that I've concluded the opposite -- that the S200 is quite crashworthy.

 

The S2000 has been thoroughly crash tested, Mr. M3.

 

Exactly what Rick said. The S2k actually I think it's pretty safe, plus, if you're a good driver, it's got much more agility and ability to get out of very hairy situations.

In Seattle, many people can't drive! I deal with at least one SUV a week wanting to merge into me, at which I have to put on stunt driver hat just to avoid collision - hey it's the cost of owning this car.

Get the car, wear your seatbelts and just keep an eye out for bad drivers you'll be fine : )

 

Get a yellow one. I feel safer in a yellow S2000 than in a black SUV.
