[QUOTE=happs22,Dec 28 2005, 07:24 PM] That video is obviously a fake.

I don't understand all the comments about how bad the S is in the rain?

I guess having road raced motorcycles in the rain, I just have a feel for the light touch required!

As an instructor at FCT04 at Beaverun my first couple of practice laps where in BIG TIME wet conditions as soon as they opened the track to the instructors (first thing). It was my first time on that track and on the third lap coming over the rise going into T1 decelerating from about 118 MPH to about 45 MPH for T1 my S02's broke loose. I took both feet out, corrected, got it pointed where I wanted it to go and got back on the gas to keep it pointed in the direction that I wanted it to go.

May I suggest that the people that think the S can not be driven in the rain consider attending a "real" driving school like the Skip Barber Driving School? (I do not mean the racing school) Over the years since I stopped racing, I have attended it twice, just to keep my skill level up. IMO, it is money (about $1200 for the two day school plus expenses) well spent, when one considers the consequenses of crashing a vehicle. Besides, where else can one get to drive a Viper RT?

P.S. By the way they will let you take your own vehicle on the small practice track. I am not sure about the skip pad.
I'm pretty sure that was a joke and you are reading way too much into it.

I have the full version at home -- it was a 2.2L and they were pushing it to 9000RPMs. They said he over-revved it and it let go.

Good vid, they also compared a stock AP1 vs AP2 vs MCR AP1.
Didn't they say that the mcr s2k had a 4.3 final drive?

Darn! I hate when I am encumbered by literacy!

In this thread I think that you may be right. But, I have seen that comment all over this site that S's cannot be driven in the rain.

Driving in the wet requires a light touch. Running a bull through a china shop will never work IMO.

Sounds like (to me) he well understood the sarcasm and was commenting on the basis in fact from which the sarcasm originated. ie: "Alot" (/forestgump voice) of threads about how the S is a hand full in the cold/wet .

In my admittedly short time on the board that has been one thing that has slowed me down in my search for an S2k: my wife will occasionally be required to drive it.

So.....it's personally a relief to see posts such as Happs22 and Matt_inva's calling BS.

edit: oh yeah cool vid (sorry for the thread hijack)

Based on the threads posted here on S2Ki, it's not obvious to people who haven't driven an S whether it's safe in anything but warm and dry conditions. That's unfortunate, as all of those threads I've seen boil down to driver error. Nonetheless, anyone driving an S for the first time in wet or cold conditions would be well advised to take it easy and get a feel for the car before pushing things.

For my part, I've driven in frog-strangling rainstorms, including through standing water, with zero problems. Others, however, seem to wrap their cars around utility poles after a single raindrop. I can't understand quite how they manage to do this, but I don't doubt that they do, somehow.

So let's be careful out there. And Matt's right: if you're worried about it, invest in a driver's training course like the Skip Barber one. HPH
