Default s2000's in Thailand?

My brother called me while he was on vacation in Thailand. An uncle of ours works at a Honda dealership in Bangkok and he told my bro that they only made 4 s2000's and they've only sold 2 of them. My bro told him that I just bought one and he doesn't believe him

Damn our cars are bad ass

Oddly enough, convertibles are a niche purchase in South East Asia...too hot? I dunno I'm in Malaysia and I've had 13. Manual trannys are not popular either, that's a little more understandable especially in a place like Bangkok where 'bumper to bumper' traffic takes on a new meaning. Finally, 2 seater vehicles are not considered 'good value for $$'.
BTW if your Uncle has an MY04 that he's willing to let go at a discounted price, I'm interested!

Cheers.

Wow!, never knew that the is S available in Thailand, think I can take mine back if ever to go home then, cool!

But wait a minute.., in Bangkok, one traffic light could take you 30min, rush hour start from 4am-11pm., smokes that are coming out of those buses and motorcycles, ..mmm, maybe it isn't a good idea to bring my S there after all..

wow. you the brave man. seen lots of miatas, but never any s2000's back home. did you import it? or from naza motors? do they still import exotics? sorry, been too long removed to be in touch.
and yes, I'd say weather is a factor - the s2000's top has squat for insulation. feeling it right now in 20 degrees fahrenheit (abt -5 celcius).

I originally hail from M'sia... Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to be exact, although I've been in Melbourne for most of my life. I was just wondering, how much did you acquire your S2k for over there? The last time I was back, I noted that a 2001 Spa S2K was going for RM295,000 as according to my Uncle. Apparently, 2yrs later...its still on the lot, yet to be sold.

If I ever go back there to work, I'll definitely see if I could take the 'S' with me. I lurrve hot weather like you wouldn't believe...

I'm actually flying back to M'sia in a month or so, I'll see if I can check out the import car/exotic car dealerships there...and go S2K hunting.

Gentlemen of this thread, great to make your acquaintance! The S2000 is a particularly bad seller in Malaysia. When the 1999 models 1st landed they sold @ around RM280,000. The "I wanna be seen with one 1st" rich brigade bought em. Their price rapidly descended to RM250K....RM230 then below the the RM200 mark.
When I bought my 1st one it cost me RM142.500, 2 owners, and 18K Kms on the clock - i negotiated till the seller was almost on his knees - for 3 months! I sold it and bought another one and oddly enough paid more! RM159,000. But this car was a 1 owner, immaculate, with 7,845 kms on the clock, MY 99
Honda Malaysia doesn't have the balls to bring in the car or market it, so its 100% grey import.
As to driving the car in the tropics, if you've never "been chased by the rain"...driving with the top down when its overcast and you can smell the rain saturation in the air...you ain't lived! Not to mention chilling in the cool air following a rainstorm (just make sure u got them SO3's in good tread! ).

May I extend an invitation, not just to you guys. but anyone 'on here' who's 'in town' you're more than welcome to get in touch with me. PM for better particulars anytime.

later.

Thanks for the information Hoenda, and also glad to make your acquaintance.

Its pretty cool to see other M'sians on this board, I honestly wouldn't have expected it. In any case I'll be flying off on 22nd of January...so will definitely PM you if I happen to be in the area. Its probably too much to hope that you're from the East side right? Whereabouts in M'sia do you reside?

Ha, I'm a KL boy thru n thru my friend, and I won't start a US V Canada, West v East Malaysia thing!

You're most welcome to get in touch regardless.

Forgot to mention NAZA is most def in business, in fact they're thriving. From Gallardo's to Japanese SUVs, u name it, they got it. Did I hear you say 'Enzo?'.. yeah they got 1 for sale too

I'm a rare breed in these parts. Cars, cliched or otherwise, are a passion. And I'm even more niche cos I love my convertibles... M3's, 911's (3 964s), Ferrari 348 Spider. Miata, TVR...yeah baby.

Well, hope we'll catch up one day and maybe if this thread starter reads my earlier post, I may have a MY04 to take you out for a drive!

sounds like you'd be lucky to even hit VTEC on most SE Asian roads. wtf is the point of having the S then?

I've lived in Manila, and as much as I love the S, I would *NEVER* have one in the Philippines. with the smog and traffic in the big cities (as well as crime), and the piss poor road quality everywhere else... it would be as ridiculous as driving a Hummer on city streets.

Quite to the contrary my friend. We have some excellent roads and some pretty lenient law enforcement. One of the main reasons I'm still here today, is me being able to 'stretch the legs' of my sports cars.
In fact, i was out in the wee hours of this morning waking up Kuala Lumpur to the sound of a VTEC soundtrack bouncing off the limiter

As to the town centre, I try to avoid it, it's not really that bad but I'm fortunate to have the S as a second car.
