Or

It could be interpeted as calender year 2007. This means we could make a 2007 S2000 since it would be introduced in November of 2006. I think this is more likely since the Acura RSX is in the same boat. We're definitely not doing an all new car for 2007 since we already have the new RDX and all new MDX for this model year. This means the earliest we could do a new RSX is MY2008. Naturally this is introduced in calender year 2007, and it fits within the announced plans.

No, my bothers, uncles, cousins, sisters boyfriends next door neighbor did not give me this information. When I was asking our Acura rep about the RSX he gave me the scenario above for the RSX. I'm just extrapolating out for the S2000
Colin, my pick is that American Honda will keep its commitment to side curtain air bags in the entire offering by the end of 2006, like the poster said.

To me, that means thay've already made the decision the MY2006 is the finale for the S2000 and for the RSX.

I'm just on the sidelines, not an insider, but that's my pick.

The only reason S2000s are not adaptable to side curtains is that S2000 don't have ROOFS where side curtains are normally installed. Which is only because S2000s are convertible. Which means one of two things:
1) either they will make an exception for S2000,
2) or S2000's replacement won't be a convertible.

I hate this mandatory airbag crap. It raises weight, insurance, price and repair cost of all cars. IMO it should be an option not standard. Thats why cars like the TSX and new civic with there 10 airbags cost and weigh so much. Im hoping the next S2000 (if there is one) isnt going to weigh 3000+ lbs since Hondas nowadays are getting fatter and fatter. They cant seem to make lightweight cars anymore. The s2000 should weigh as much as a Miata or within 100 lbs. It shouldnt be 450 lbs more.

Umm ......... I know how the curtains work and I know that the S2000 doesn't have a roof so spare me..... Porsche has managed to add side airbags with head protection so it is possible (but doubtful for the s2000 in it's last year).

Barry, I have not gotten the impression that the RSX will stop before the successor is released. IMO thus the "liberal" interpetition of the "2007 decree" . My rep is pretty good, but I guess we'll wait and see! However I reserve the right to revisit this thread next year when we're lamenting that the 2007 S2000 will be the last one.

PS, I'm not above saying "I told you so"
