Default S2k ?

Guy's I was thinking of getting an S2000, how much would I be looking at for say a 99??
I'm also considering an M3, as I tested one the other day and it was unbelievable!

Thanks all.

I read this article on the S2k:

Introducing the Honda S2000 - a pure-bred roadster forged from the challenge of racing discipline.

The Honda S2000's engine produces more power per litre than any other non-turbo production engine and sends the rev counter needle sweeping around to the 9,000 mark. We built this remarkable two-litre car to celebrate our first 50 years and it zooms to 62mph in just 6.2 seconds.

Where conditions allow, the car will carry on accelerating to 150mph. But the adrenaline-pumping performance of the amazing Honda S2000 roadster is also kind to the environment. Thanks to our latest advances in engine technology, the Honda S2000 meets the world's toughest emissions legislation.

Packed with racing technology, it is our first classic front-engined, rear-driven model since the much-loved S800 appeared in 1965. Almost everything about the Honda S2000 is special. Based on an X-shaped body-chassis, it gets super agility from a new breed of double wishbone suspension.

Perfect weight distribution gives the precision handling that makes this roadster a driver's dream. A six-speed close-ratio gearbox made-up of lightweight components maximises the true sportscar experience.

Press the big red start button on the dashboard to fire up the engine and you'll soon know why this is one of the most highly acclaimed sports cars of the last few years. Small wonder the Honda S2000 is already regarded as a collector's item.

They only made a '99 in Japan and I think maybe Europe. It wasn't introduced till 2000 in the states. I would think you are looking at mid 20k's for a used one. But they are Honda's so hopefully they'll last just as long as most Honda's....forever!

Although I'm not up to speed on used pricing, I'll tell you that I just sold my '02 M3 convertible so I could get an S2000. The M was nice, but not nice enough to justify its $60k price tag... for half that, I've got a new '03 enroute. I'm a tinkerer by nature and the S2K is much easier (and cheaper) to work with than the M is.

Granted, the 1/4 and 0-60 times are faster in the M, but I'd rather save the extra $30k and enjoy the sense of accomplishment that comes with tuning the S2000.

Thanks Ryan/XTC.

Sorry to be nosey, but how much did you pay for your new S2k?

In terms of depreciation how do S2k's hold up. The price of a nice E36 M3 are around $30-34k.

Thanks.

I paid $33060 (MSRP)... I probably could have gotten it slightly cheaper, but we've got a great relationship with the dealer. They're very supportive of our tuning work, to the point that they'll be doing a flywheel/clutch/supercharger install on the S2K before we take delivery (assuming I can make my mind up about Vortech vs. Comptech).

We'd originally started looking at certified used S2000s after testdriving a $29k white/red 2000 with 22k miles in August. For around $3000, I couldn't justify not buying a new one, especially with the lower interest rates that come with new cars. They hold their value better than any car I've had in years - hell, I took a $14k hit selling the M3 after a year.

I've got no idea why someone would pay over MSRP for a used E46 M3 - I only paid MSRP for mine.

I'm selling because I need 4 seats for the baby due in Novemeber. If I could afford 2 car payments I would keep her.

Priorities. Sigh.
