This is VERY subjective. Personally I like that I have the true 50th anniversary year. However if I had to get another one, it would be an '03. Last of the USDM 9k redline (F20C), glass window, minor tweaks to "improve" the car - retuned ECU, banjo bolts, a little less tail-happy (although I have learned to handle it).

Then again, the AP2 has a different powerband with the 2.2 liter, so '05 (may as well get the latest model). Different nose and tail styling, 17" rims, interior tweaked a bit (console and dash).

The AGAIN, the '06 has traction control, updated sound system, new leather on the seats, etc.

Awe heck, just get one. I love mine.

2008 will be the best, Honda will merge with GM and put the 450hp LS-3 v8 in the new improved S2000 ,later that year Corvette will come out with a fuel efficient version sporting a Honda 4 cyl. engine that will rev to an amazing 10k RPMS (although lacking torque) and get 25 mpg city/highway.

Aesthetically I love the AP2, especially the 04-05, but I love AP1's redline. Personally, I'd go with your brothers opinion and purchase a used 04 since the mileage will be relatively lower.

The Introductions threads usually fields these questions, but imo 02 or later are all good b/c they have glass rear windows and some mechanical kinks worked out. Like the man said though, any S you own is the best.
'02-03 if you want the 9k redline and '04 and up if you want 8k redline with IMO better rims and front bumper and headlights,....... you will also get slightly different tailights, rear bumper, exhaust tips and a little different interior painted parts. I might have missed something, but you get the point.

How low do you need the mileage to be??? There are tons of Ap1 S2000's with almost no mileage. Either way, whatever you get, it will be one of the best car on the road.

The best year is the newest year that has the 9k motor. For the US market, that year is 2003. Holla!
