I wonder how much of this is because it's a Japanese car, and thus the target of interest of "import" fans (many of whom are, unfortunately, jerks). It would be interesting to learn whether 350Z owners get the same level/type of unwelcome attention.

I have noticed that too. But only when I dont have my hardtop on.(top down) This big guy in a rust bucket with a loud Exhaust kept tailing me last night, then he revs his engine and comes on the side of me. I look at him and he dont even look back and when the light turns green he burns out. I laugh to myself. This is like the 3rd time something like this has happend.

It's all part of owning the car, I'm afraid. I've not had this happen too often but it does occur from time to time. My favorite was a couple of kids in a Ford Ranger pickup that pulled up beside me one night and kept revving the engine. I couldn't see them clearly because it was dark and my windows are tinted but unless they had something hidden under the hood (didn't sound like it when he was revving it) it would have been a short race.

The S2000 may be a relatively rare car but it does seem to have a reputation as being something to contend with in the speed department.

On the other side of the coin, I have fielded a number of compliments lately from folks as I simply drove past. That part's kind of nice!

thanks for the responses. may i ask what "ricer" means? when this first started happening, i thought that maybe i just wasn't used to such a short back end to the car, that the jerks really weren't all that close, but that's not always the case. there is a clear aggressivity to some of these jerks. and, yes, it usually is someone in what one of you called a rust bucket. very disconcerting.

I now wonder if anyone has had things thrown into the car when the top is down. that particular thought crossed my neurotic mind this AM.

To me, the term "ricer" generally refers to a Japanese branded car (although that may not be true all the time) that has had various aftermarket improvements (??) added to it that the owner "thinks" makes it faster.

The most common example is something like a Civic with one of those "coffee can" mufflers sticking out the back. It makes the car louder but not in any way that makes it sound "better", IMO! This is particularly obnoxious if the car has an automatic in it.

JMO!

Even though the S2000 will give many of these V8 equipped cars a run for their money, if not outright stomp them into the ground in some cases, I tend to feel a little sorry for these guys that have to challange a small roadster with half the cylinders and less than half the engine displacement (in a lot of cases) in hopes of getting a kill.

It's pretty pathetic sometimes.

i get harrassed mostly by V6 mustangs and Camaros. A few GTs, too. I won't give the V6s the time of day, but I love putting V8 GTs in their place. I'll joust with them up to about 65 then let them keep going for the ticket. I brake hard after I've pulled on them to show them who won...whether they believe it I care not.

Then there is the pickups. I can't believe these rednecks even have a chance in their 17 second pickups. A S2000 is a match or more for even a Lightning.
