In your data analysis, I wonder if there is any way to compare the asking price vs. age, while normalizing or filtering out mileage differences.

This would have a bearing on somebody like me who drives their car about 40,000 miles per year. With that rate of mileage, would I be better off paying more attention to how old the car is, rather than it's mileage?

Actually, I did do that normalization towards the end of the original post. Here is the chart again. Please let me know if it needs more explanation or anything!

Great work collecting and analyzing this data adept! It's certainly useful and interesting to know for current and potential S2000 owners.

As you and likely many of us are wondering though, is how factors like age, mileage, color, condition, et cetera have on SALES price, rather than ASKING price. It should certainly be possible to collect this data, as sales price is reported to the state when the car is titled. Has anyone taken a look at PriceHub.com? It appears that this site sells this data. For instance, you can select the model year S2000 that you're interested in and see miles vs. sales price for recent sales.

On private sales, if you're smart, you're not going to say you paid $20k for tax purposes, when u can say u paid $12k and keep that $$$ in your pocket. Alot of sellers will be willing to do that.

Don't do it.

It is fraud and illegal. It is possible to be caught but even if you escape you know you are a dishonest person.

Usually above the line you sign are the words: " I certify or declare under penalty of perjury under the laws of xxxxx that the foregoing is true and correct."

The small difference in what you pay in taxes is not worth your exposure to criminal behavior and the damage to your reputation and conscience. If you are dishonest in small things, you are dishonest in big things. Don't do it.

Nice work. When I was in the military we used Factors Analysis with a poisson distribution for predictive analysis. Your post gave me flashbacks.
