S2K Current Market Analysis
So I took a look at 6 cars, and I wanted the one that I ended up with even before doing this. But it wasn't until after looking at these numbers I felt comfortable that I was paying a fair price. Also, I was originally considering to buy a car that had 25k miles on it, but after looking at the steep drop-off on the $/mile graph, I felt better about getting a relatively higher mileage car.
I think the analysis "sealed the deal."
Did you compare your curve to the available car pricing sites like KBB, Edmunds, etc? If so how did ho compare? They spit out a likely range of prices for a given condition/year/mileage car as far as possible transaction prices go. By using empirical data on % delta between auction, trade in, dealer, and private prices listed on those sites and using your set of data we can get to a closer estimation of transaction prices?
Great analysis by the way. And just like someone else said we make deals worth millions with less market analysis so this is impressive for a $15-$20k transaction! I'm sure it was pretty fun once you got into it though (former Chemical Engineer turned MBA here...)

Well done on this analysis man! Very well done. You are thorough. According to your graphs I have seriously scored in terms of price when I bought my SC'd AP1. I mean its several thousand dollars less than the average one with the same miles on it.
Must have been a fun project! "Lies, damn lies, and statistics."
Interesting and admittedly flawed (stated up front) since the only data available is a snapshot of asking prices. If you want more work perhaps an analysis of auction sales of these cars. Does tell us that the white car owners think they can sell them at a higher price for some reason.
We can all increase the value of our cars by this model by advertising them on Craig's List at $50,000.
