Thumbs up s2k Essentials

all,
the time has come, and i am in the market for my s2k. i was just wondering what are the basic essentials that you think/or believe are needed to take care of your car and keep it safe. I.E. i was planning on purchasing a car cover, seat locks, before i buy my car so i can have them right away.

would you guys wait till you bought the car?

or am i jumping the gun and buying aftermarket parts too soon?

thanks for reading this and hopefully i can get some other opinions. thanks.

I don't believe in car covers at all, but the seat locks would be a great purchase.

A few months ago, while waiting for my 05 to be delivered, I purchased a few items that arrived before the car did. No biggie if you are sure you are getting the S. Rick's 7/8th aeroscreen, windblockers, additional accessory outlet, and interior accent lights all arrived before the S did. It gave me an opportunity to become "intimate" with the new S upon arrival.

honestly, i'd hold off until you actually GET the car. i've almost made the mistake of ordering parts for an Evo because i was CERTAIN that would be the car i wanted, then i drove the S2000 and it was over. i would've been out cash on parts that i would have no use for.

point is, you never know what car you'll end up with UNTIL that car is in your garage. as tempting and exciting as it is to pre-order parts, er on the side of caution.

Don't spend money on go fast straight crack pipe paraphenalias.
Get the car, preferrably well maintained used one, join local Auto X and HPDE events and hone your driving skills.

my car is stock and will be stock for years to come. I've spent same amount of money on Driver's Ed and HPDE events that someone could buy a hardtop with. But I have no regrets. I am not calling an OEM hardtop a waste. I enjoy driving my car much more than before and being able to extract every ounce of potential out of your car in stock form is much rewarding and satisfying than chasing that ghost of modding.

There is always a car that is faster than you. Spend your time and money wisely. Learn to drive your car properly first before anything.

I had a spare set of OEM wheels and a trailer hitch before I bought my S! I knew I would be autocrossing it and found great deals on used parts.

The only things essential to an S2000, IMO, are money and more money.

Start setting aside some for insurance now because this car is quite expensive to insure and maintain.
