s2k exahust
looking for advice on the purchase of exahust system (catback)...
I understand that the stock exhaust will enhance with age, but looking for q bit more throaty.... maybe HKS or the Comptech.... not sure if they are the best in sound and performance...
If you have knowledge of other sporty sounding exhaust systems please let me know soon... I also would like to know if this will void any warranties to the engine excluding the stock exhaust?
I have another hopeful collector car "Plymouth Prowler" sounds just right... not too loud for the neighborhood, just right in the cockpit... would like to duplicate this sound.
thanks

I've got the Neuspeed system from Mingster (Import Developments - see sponsor list at the bottom). This is basically a Borla made system. Mingster has the best price on these and others. Email him for details. I really like the Neuspeed. It sounds more muscular, a bit louder at idle, one heck of a nice sound at high revs, beautiful tips. Doesn't make it sound like a typical Japanese 4 banger with a coffee can muffler on it.
Neuspeed changed its supplier, and the new version is now bolt based instead of clamp based. It's also quite a bit more expensive: $949.99 retail (the previous clamp on version retailed at $699.99), but of course my company's prices are much better than this.
If you want a combination of lightweight, power, and a good price, I would say Spoon N1 single outlet exhaust, but Neuspeed is the undisputed value king for dual outlet exhaust -> FULL stainless steel construction (from the cat back to the tips, no mild steel components), it's also about 15 pounds lighter than stock.

I think it's probably more than 15lbs lighter... when my little bro and I were installing, the stock exhaust felt much heavier...
just curious, anyone know how much the Tanabe RM are going for?

HKS HKS HKS!
Honestly if you want throaty, HKS is just that...
esp in 3000-6000RPM
uner 3000 is a deep low hum...
6000 upwards it screams!
The Helmholtz Resonator of the HKS also looks extremely cool from behind!
Look for my post "HKS Exhaust Pics" in the Picture Gallery Section for pics...
Yeah, have fun deciding and let us know which one you finally decide on!

I ended up going with the Comptech Exhaust system. At first I thought it was a little loud. (my ears were ringing a little) Though that was when the top was up and I kept the RPM down in the low range...which is where it seems to have the most noticeable sound.
After taking it for a spin with the top down and revving it like crazy I really liked the sound of it. I never got a chance to hear any of the other companies exhaust systems since theres still to few s2000s in San Diego.

A cat-back exhaust SHOULDN'T void any warranties (except maybe for your muffler
) , but depending on the dealer, they may give you hassles. I believe the burden of proof lies with them. If something breaks, they have to prove that your aftermarket part was the cause or something like that...
I've never heard the Prowler's exhaust, but I'm anxious to get an exhaust too and am looking at either J's Racing N1 or Spoon. Both sound very sweet (throaty!) though I think the J's N1 is supposed to be pretty loud.ü
