S2k Handling(Accident related) Question
Hi everyone I'm new to the forum.
I've been looking into getting an s2000 for about a few weeks now and I'm currently waiting for a good deal on CL for an AP1. I'm 22 years old and have gone through 2 FF beaters in my driving career. However, after looking through the Official S2k Accident Thread today, I think im having second thoughts about getting one. I'd like to hear your opinion or stories on this. Also, how many of you have never had an accident before? Close calls?
From what I've learned, in order to prevent oversteering/spinning out, I need to do the follow the these rules:
1. Do not lift throttle suddently while cornering.
2. Do not accelerate hard while corner.
3. Must use fresh tires.
4. Leave spirited driving at the track.
Did I miss anything?

I'm 21 and my first manual car is my current 01 ap1, plus my car is supercharged so its more then just your ap1.
I'm not sure if its the sc or non-sc but just dont fully gas the throttle in first gear or your rears will break loose.
Also dont WOT on wet roads.
I always spirit drive on street roads so i dont see the problem with that.
If i was gonna get a s2000 today, ill probably get an ap2. if cash wasnt an issue, then an 06 with the vsa if possible.

I dont see any issue. Its an easy car to drive thats tons of fun to drive. An car you throw full throttle into corners is going to give some movement but overall the car sticks very well. Its the best car out there for your buck.

If you're coming from a FWD car then yes be very careful, a RWD car reacts differently than a FWD car.
If you're coming from a RWD car then no, it reacts the same way your old car did.
With one proviso, the stock tires were wider than the rating said they were so many people just go with the rated size rather than the real size and put on rear tires that are smaller than stock and get a more tail happy car. This is especially apparent when they put on cheap tires. So check out your new baby before you hit the road.

The beauty of the S2000 is it will do exactly what you tell it to do. Some people just don't know how to talk to it. Lifting during a turn will lighten the rear end in anycar - the reaction time of the S2000 is just a lot quicker.
Autocrossing is a fun and inexpensive way to find the limits of the car (or any car). You can try finding them on the street, and most people go this route, but you may end up hitting a wall instead of a cone.
