Default S2k motor swap questions.

I’m very close to buying a jdm f20 off hmotors website. Everyone says they are a good reputable place. They cost $4200. Comes with engine/trans/ecu/harness

Have any of you bought any motors from here?

How many miles do they actually bring? I see it says 30-50km I’m wondering if this is actually true or just bs?

Also, did you end up selling your old motor and tranny??

Because I’m seeing on eBay used motors with over 150k miles going for $2500-$3000 without the transmission. And tranny’s going for $600-$1000 with even 200k miles...

At these prices I’m basically upgrading to the jdm engine with very low miles for not that much $$ if I sell my motor and tranny. I could likely sell my engine/tranny for $2500-$3000 it seems.

Is this a good idea or is it better to just rebuild the current motor?

Whichever I choose is getting supercharged which is why I wanted a newer motor with less miles to use.

I would recommend removing yours and getting it built by someone like inline pro or another reputable builder. You can get your existing bottom end sleeved with forged internals for less than a jdm motor, it will have 0 miles on it and be able to handle considerably more power/boost

I waited until after I developed an issue to have inline pro build mine, and a big part of me wished I had it built before I boosted

Excuse the ignorance if I'm wrong, as I'm relatively new, but I'm certain your motor (if well maintained) is more than up to the task of handling a supercharger....I've heard plenty of people going boosted at 200k and beyond, and a lot of tuners confirm that the car makes power and runs strong at higher miles after getting boosted. Just get a compression test, adjust valves, new plugs, seals etc and you should be good to go...Plus what seems to be another thing with these motors is they prefer to stay sealed up unless you're making big power. Pretty sure you'll be fine at 4-450whp with a supercharger as you're not going to find much more power unless you're going E85 and meth, especially out of an F20.

I've done extensive reading on the subject as I plan on supercharging myself. I follow LHT religiously on YouTube as I love their work, and they've done tons of kits on stock motors, and several of them at high mileage. If the motor is in good shape it shouldn't be an issue. Save your time and money.

I personally would pick a used Honda motor over a new rebuild, these engines are too far off of a normal motor for them to be successfully rebuilt.

Just supercharge what you have now, it'll be expensive enough. $5000 for the supercharger and tuning. Assuming you don't get stupid with adding vanity horsepower it'll be as good a bet as something you buy off Ebay of from Japan which you can always do. But you'll probably get tired of the car before then and you'll never get your money out of the car.

Too many stories here regarding bad rebuilds but the nature of these forums doesn't have folks reporting success.
