I have 3 cars now and 3 kids (4, 2, 0). We have a minivan, a beetle (turbo s), and the S2000. Wife is perfectly fine with it.

I tried for some time to find some justification for buying an S with a wife and two kids. After I said the heck with it and bought mine simply because I wanted it, we discovered something that thrilled my family. Often after a stressful day at work, I didn't have a lot of emotional energy left for my wife and kids. Driving the S home, however, did a great job of "recharging the batteries" . After being sucked dry at the office, 30 minutes in the S made me ready to be a husband and father again. That itself was worth the price of the car.

Don't know if you realize that MY 06 has the air bag disable feature. Will make it much safer for your new addition to ride with you.

That's right, depends on a few things:
1. Understanding with the Mrs.
2. Financial situation
3. Vehicle coverage for the family

I bought the S three months after my elder son was born.
Wife already had a CRV and I had a 2001 Prelude. I made my
case that the back seats of the Prelude were useless and I might
as well buy a 2 seater. Son was also not scheduled to go to daycare
for 1 year. I was looking to commute in the car primarily (44 miles
each day). We could always use the CRV for family occassions. My wife
is really understanding but she had no issues after I took her for a test
drive and VTEC'd a few times. Her actual words were "just buy it ..... I
know why you love this car!". I drove the S for 1 year as a DD including
winter (with snows). Loved it. I also knew that it would not be a DD forever
and become a 3rd car down the line, so I bought it pre-owned (02 in July,
04 with 12,000 miles). I felt there was no need paying a very high
monthly payment on a car that would become a 3rd car sooner or later
(also that fact that I love the 2.0L engine).

We now have another son (3 months old) and elder son is almost
2.5 yrs. He goes to daycare 3 days a week and since I need to take
him, I bought a 06 Civic earlier this year. It is a great car and has
enough space for two kids (or the dog) when I need to take them (wife
still has the CRV and wants to keep it), and still gives 30 mpg in the city.
The Civic is now my DD as I drive the S on Thursdays and Fridays to
work and over the weekend. The S is also stored 5 months of the
year during winter.

My wife loves driving the S too and she wants me to keep it as long
as I can.

So, in short, given you cover the top 3 points, you should really buy
the S. Life is too short, enjoy it in the present. Don't be like some
people who put their lives on hold because they have kids (again
must cover the 3 points) and dont do anything fun till they are 60
yrs old. There is no guarantee in life...... Parents need to have fun
too! I am looking forward to taking my elder son to our local drives
when he is old enough.

My $0.02 from one parent to another.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

If you have the room for it I'd make it the 3rd vehicle too.

It does for me and my family, but then we have 6 cars, 4 motorcycles, 2 gocarts, about a dozen bicycles and our feet for our various transportation needs.

No kids...yet....and the wife (after years of psycholigical persuation) one night gave in and said "Buy it!" i had to get rid of my RR which I think was the trade-off she had been looking for. It sits in the garage most of the week because I have a company car...but I drive it every chance I get. it will eventually become a daily driver because I plan to make a career change.
Main thing is that it was financially possible. And as of right now, she hasn't made any mention of me getting a bigger vehicle to accomodate a child and/or child seat when we do have kids. She has the RL for that. Get it!
