Default S2K Relability ?

Hi Everyone,

I need your input. Here is the situation:

I am looking at buying a S2K, I saw they have one at my local dealer (a CR model, currently with 19k miles). After research, I found that the last owner of the car is an Auto-X racer, and put 12k on it. I am sure it has been to the track very often. Considering that it was a track car and when taken to the track, was probably redlined 100% of the time with constant downshifting and push to its limit. So should I be concern about purchasing it? Or are Honda bulletproof? Or should I just wait ... and fine one that hasn't been tracked ... well maybe tracked once or twice ... but not like track track car ...

Thanks

Autox is very different from track. If it was just autoxed, then I wouldn't worry about it. Most of the wear is going to be on the tires and maybe shocks (ok bushings too but it's not the end of the world). Track cars are a mixed bag. If it's like mine then it might be in even better condition that street cars because I'm a nut case about being on top of maintenance and replacing any part that could go wrong. Then you also have track cars that are treated like 50cent hookers. The latter is usually pretty obvious from a good look at the car.

Hmm Thanks. Since this car is at a Honda dealership, I am sure they prep it up already to make it look clean + it is inside the showroom, so there no test drive. It is interesting that it is an 08, yet they are not selling it as a certified used. Which makes me think if they know it has been ... a "49 cent" hooker lol.

Forgot to add ... since it is the showroom and is prep. Is there anything that can spot visually that might deter the car from being a reliable car?

19K be it autox or track driving the motor is like new unless the oil has never been changed.

Buy it and dont look back.

The car was built to handle the abuse it will see from auto-x/trackday use. Buy it, enjoy it and never look back.

The thing is, track junkies/auto x may beat the sh*t out of it but in the end they're known to take care of their car VERY well. I consider previous owners that tracks/auto x a plus in my books.

My '03 has 7 full seasons of autocross use on sticky Hoosiers. Car looks and runs like new. Never had an issue with it. Like others have said, I have taken very good care of it, as I wanted it to perform well, and I needed it to be reliable. It got annual fluid changes, suspension inspections, etc.

I would not be scared off by a car that was autocrossed. I would, however use it as a bargaining chip in negotiating with a dealer.

Sound Good. Thanks everyone. That put my fear at ease. I will most definitely use the autocross as my bargaining chip.

On a side note, the dealer is asking : 31k for S2008 Apex Blue CR AC/Radio w/19k. Overprice, fair, or good deal?

I never pay more then wholesale for my cars so $31k which is near list when new seems too high.
