The BMW Z4: What an engineering achievement from the creators of "The Ultimate Driving Machines."

Z4 vs. S2000:

Z4 has 50% more engine displacement, 50% more cylinders, is priced 23% higher, and yet has 6% less horsepower than the S2000.

That extra money must be paying for a lot of extra leather!

Ultimate Driving Machine, indeed!

 

I drove an SLK before the S2000. They are completely different animals.

S2000: It's butter. It's pure. The emphasis is on the driver/car interaction.

SLK: It's image. It's comfort. It's looking like you have a flashy sportscar without the drawbacks.

 

How about the big "Duncan YOYO" glued onto the side as a side marker. That thing looks aweful in person. Other than that it does not look too bad just not as sweet as the S2.

 

so performance, the S2000 beats the z4 and slk?

 

without a doubt rich the s2i outperforms both vehicles...look at it this way...if you want a z4...wouldn't you really rather have a buick? they look more and more like buicks every day...if you're gonna go for an slk get the 330 slk amg...that is a sweet machine...but for the buck if you want a driving machine you can't beat the s2000...hands down... thats my opinion anyway, but I could be predudice.

I liked the Z4 when I tested it (3.0 performance with 6-speed manual); great, lively steering and energetic torque. The styling is starting to be less appalling to me as I see more and more on Southern California streets. I do believe that the cars are in the same class, price aside. And, after I drove them both, I thought that the Honda was much more fun and bought the S2000. Isn't there another thread out there regarding why the S2000 is left out of so many of these comparison tests?

I never noticed it before, but the thing DOES look like a Buick. Kind of a squat Buick at that.

 

Good analysis, Dookie...I am one of those happy S2K owners who thinks Honda did it just right! We are in a class by ourselves!

Just as I am finished reading this thread, that horribly ugly front end of the Z4 is on Speed Channel. I drove one. It is a nice weekend car for a soccer mom. It is not fun to drive like my S2000.
