Default S2k vs. E36 M3?

My friend was actually tryin to prove to me that the e36 m3 has a better engine than the s2k's. After about 5 minutes of arguing it was pretty easy to prove him wrong, lol. But of course, he had to go on saying that the e36 m3 (year 99) is a better car. I completely disagree, wat do you guys think?

I dunno...

I've always loved the M3s but it is a four door sport tuned sedan compared to a two-seat dedicated roadster. To each his own, but I'd take my S over an E36. E46 on the other hand... I'd snatch one up in a heartbeat.

most people with a bmw are clueless to any other sport car out there..so its up to u to tell them all the numbers..followed by rocking them on the street.(ive done this to a custom widebody e36 cple yrs ago..til today,he doesnt speak about cars in front of me..lol..its awesome)

Personally speaking, I think the new M3's are a better car then the S. Faster and has better looks, but you do have to spend almost double. Both cars are great cars, but I think the M3 is better and the price suggests that.

i just sold my 95 e36. mine had a 99 motor converted to obd1. i must say it was an amazing engine. i can't say that it's better or worse than the S. i'll just say it has its good points and weak points. just as it is in most car comparisons. but i can say that it is definitely faster then the S. it is not quite as agile and quick reving as the S. So i guess, u can't say one is better then the other. if u say a specific maybe we can( for example: road race, autocross....)

you are referring to a 2001-2005 M3 which is an E46 M3, they are talking about an E36 M3 which is a 1995-1999

the 95 had a 3.0 inline 6 engine
96 had 3.2 liter inline 6 engine
97 had updates nose and waterpump
98.5 had the T steering wheel
99 had different leather

All years had 240hp, and near perfect weight balance, the E36 M3 was named Car & Driver's "Best Handling Car At Any Price." back in its day that is

I believe the s2k would beat a stock E36 M3 at a slolem and quarter mile.

PS: E46 M3 is a kick ass car only complaint I have is its a little harder to shift and the clutch is a bit of a strain on my left leg in traffic

I'd still take the S2000 over a e46 M3... If I would have wanted one, I would have bought one. There's too many 3 series around that 90% of the people on the street would have no idea that you drive a m3.

Why would you want people to care about what you drive?
