S2Ki.com Race Track?
I've been playing with this idea for a while now, and I'm curious to see if something like this would fly at all. My family owns a few acres of land in Kern County, about an hour and half outside of Los Angeles, and it's just been sitting there idle for the past decade, doing nothing. I haven't really even looked into the local building codes, but if it was permissible, I thought about building a race track there. I've asked a few local members as to the cost and possibilities, and I thought maybe the national community can give me a better idea in terms of cost, liability concerns, logistics, etc. I imagine that the track would be a low-medium speed track where handling and driving skills are more important than power.
Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds good... think of the sponserships and fun you'll bring to the area... but also think of some of the troubles like... gang related bull crap and people that don't know how to drive
It's still a great idea...

you should look into 'member only' tracks like TMR (texas motorsport ranch) and others of the like. they are very successful and kept up very clean. I drove by there and stopped in there this morning on the way back from Nebraska. =)
It's real name is actually Motorsport Ranch (MSR for short.)
Jack Farr has done a great job with it - but he had a lot of initial money to put into it. He does say it's profitable, but I don't know if he's made back his initial investment yet. (He uses a country club style membership system, with initiation fee, monthly fee, and greens fees.) One of the good things going for him is that there's not any comparable tracks in the area - I'm not so sure that's true of the area you're talking about, though. You can find out more at www.motorsportranch.com - Jack would probably be the best person to talk to regarding what it takes to set up a private track.
