Are S2K's dropping in popularity?????????
The good thing about living in a relatively small town is that you know practically every single S2K in town. I think it's much cooler driving a car that few people own. The 350Zs are multiplying like rabbits around here. Nice car but it doesn't seem quite so special after so people own them. The final test: how big is your smile when you hit the start button?
I love my little town, I only know of 1 other S2K that I USED TO see regularly, my wife sees a Spa downtown once in a while, and there are a few in a neiboring town across the bay. Exclusivity is always fun, I've never liked driving a car that everyone else and thier brother owns.
Even in this not-so-big town we see TT's, Vette's and even Boxters all the time, it's cool (I think) watching most of them stare at my "lowly" Honda

Other than the one I see belonging to a guy who happens to live right down the road from me, I see maybe 1 or 2 a month and hopefully it will always be like that.
The BMW Retarded Shark is only a few months old and already I see 1 or 2 a day. The same goes for the Nissan Frog.
In a year or two, these cars will be as common as Corvettes and Mustangs and I'm sure we'll even see one with a Domino's Pizza sign on the roof.

Wow, you guys don't run across these cars very often. I see at the very least 4-6 S2000's on a typical weekday.
IMO, whether the S2000 is dropping in popularity depends on how you define popularity. If popularity means how much people like the car, then I'd say its popularity is indeed dropping. There's more and more competition, and the car has now been out for 4 years. It's natural for people to be less fascinated with it as a result.
On the other hand, if popularity means how many S2000's are being purchased by new buyers and on the road, then I don't think that's dropping. With the S2000 market having softened considerably, more and more people are going to purchase them.

I guess you guys on the West coast are overrun with sports cars in general. Here on the East Coast, with the weather being more of a factor, there are fewer people willing to purchase a 2-seater, manual only, rag-top, especially one that doesn't have a Porsche or BMW emblem on it.
Seeing as how I hate owning something everyone else has, I don't know what car I would own out there........maybe a Yugo with 20" wheels.
