That said, 500HP on the S2000 is too high a goal for most. I think the original poster should reconsider that, unless he is willing to have the car out of commission more than operational.
My point exactly.

As much as I would love an 03/04 Cobra....by the time I am in the market they will be a few years used (May of '08). I really don't want to invest in a Mustang that is over 4yrs old....especially a Cobra. I would love to get my hands on one of those new Shelby Cobras coming out, but it's going to be likely ~40K before tax, gas guzzler, destination and the HUGE markups that dealerships are gonna put on those things. Might as well get a C6....which at this point looks like it's outta my price range....

BLee, given what you just said, a 500HP S2000 is also out of your price range. Definitely go with something else, or lower your goals.

Well, I wouldn't be doing the mods right when I got the thing! I would gradually do them little by little, starting after the warranty runs out...which gives me even more time to get some funding for mods and such....

...um.... are you majoring in Long Term Planning?

BTW, any mods you'd want to get up to 500 WHP would probably get you into a nice Viper, which would suit your purposes much better (I'm guessing.)

Also, if your parents are helping you out with the car, are they going to be happy with you blowing up their car? Maybe you should check with them first

Why not a new run of the mill Mustang GT? Relatively inexpensive and the sky is the limit as far as upgrading goes horsepower-wise.

Twin Turbo Supra 6spd 93-95-$25,000.00 (very reliable)
BPU Modifications-$900-1,500 depending on what brand you pick.

Voila 450bhp.

And before you mention financing try a credit union.

Excellent choice, but if he has reservations about buying a 4 year old cobra, I imagine a 10+ year old Supra isn't a step in the right direction.

BTW BLee85, there are many people here who believe a 500hp S2000 in the hands of a recent high school graduate will land you in one of two places: Jail or the Morgue.

Be careful out there, and try to make a sensible decision, whatever route you choose.
