S2k's really that fragile?
By May, 2008, C6 Z06's will be easily had for much less than it takes to properly build up a 500 whp S2000 (they're selling for low to mid $30k's now). Hey, Vipers can be had for under $30k.
Look, it's not that you couldn't do this to an S2000. Hell, with some work, I've seen a Nextel Cup car turned into a street sweeper, a 944 turned into a golf ball retriever, etc.
However, unless you're planning on being a guest on Monster Garage, I can't imagine why you'd start with an S2000.

so your planning on having your parents pay for your car payments AFTER you graduate from college????
if you can't even afford to own the car in stock form....much less, pay for gas/insurance/maintenance....why are you going to spend money modifying it?

Here's a rule of thumb I like to follow: If you can't afford to drive a car without making payments on it, don't modify it to the point where your engine may turn into a glorious and expensive fireworks display.

I think you guys are blowing the whole " to much work for an s2k" mentality out of proportion. I know many people, including myself, that have reached the "500 hp" goal. I actually reached 502 rwhp on pump gas alone, with everyday drivability intact.
Now, I am not saying it is easy to heavily mod an s2k, but its certainly not impossible. And to those notions that the s2k cann't handle 500hp, I disagree. The car is perfect for high hp output. Very low weight, perfect stock gear ratio's, and an engine bay that has lots of extra room for modifications, mostly because the motor is so far back for wieght distribution.
Honestly, most of the R&D work for FI has been done, so the room for error is small (if you do your research). You can get a basic ultimate racing kit, build the block and etc, and have yourself a 420-450 rwhp car with great reliability.

it just sucks how weak the drivetrain is

I didn't notice that.
aaahhh.... personally i prefer a car that handles excellent, is fast and is a pleasure to drive. Anything making 500hp normally isn't a daily driver and/or fun to drive. The Darwin Award for the Jato Rocket comes to mind.....
Personally the most i'd put on my car is the S/C for 300+- hp. Thats enough to make it a "drag" car which it really isn't. You should learn how to drive the car before you start slapping Nawz and b00st to it, otherwise you won't own it for very long.
