Sev: Don't they use cement walls at the drag strips? Your sig says that you went 100 mph between two cement walls. Wouldn't that be just as dangerous as racing at a track with a little bit of run off?

I'm too lazy to look for it, but didn't it mention that he had some sort of a brain injury in the original post. It sounded "minor" and it also mentioned that the car was being driven on the street now.
I would really prefer hard facts in a situation like this before posting to the board.
However, each time you drive a car you face risks and accept them. It is unfortunate that these things do happen. It is also unfortunate that professional drivers with nearly unlimited budgets do not take every possible safety precaution available to them. The idea that the HANS device is not used because it is uncomfortable is lunacy. The idea that someone driving a stock car isn't wearing a full-face helmet is also nutty. The brain, as mentioned, is very fragile and it only takes one good impact to make a world of difference in your life.
Safety first gentlemen....

[QUOTE]Well, it turns out that he walked away from the wreck, but the next day he had some rather serious problems and it turns out that he injured his brain and won
The guy in the Corvette had some temporal lobe swelling in his brain, but no broken bones. The car cost $15,000 to fix. It is now repainted yellow and is being driven as a street vette. I think that the guy is taking a break from racing for a while! I'm glad to know that he is ok.

My fiance is a speech therapist and she works with people who have had traumatic brain injuries. It is much easier than you think to rattle the old noggin. She has related experience with patients who have permanent brain damage from things as minor as falling off of a bicycle (with a helmet on) and low speed traffic accidents (with seat belts on) to things as severe as getting kicked in the head by a bull.
I watched that video and I wish that guy the best of luck in his recovery. Be careful out there.

I can't say if this applies to the situation in question, but according to what I've heard (some show on TLC) the brain can handle blunt trauma faily well - it's twisting blows that cause the most severe damage. Ie, the brain can't deal well when it's connections are stretched - they often break.
