There was a driver trying to make the field for the Indy 500 about 15 years ago, I think his name was Jovy Marcello. He did a quick spin entering turn one, never even hit the wall, but the spin was so quick, his brain couldn't keep up with his skull. Even though the car was totally undamaged except for flat spotting the tires, he was instantly killed.

That sux!!!Head injuries are often more serious than people think especially in high impact sports like football, hockey, and car racing. Kinda OT but I just wonder why da heck Troy Aikman wouldn't want to retire from football when he already has several concussions in a short period of time.

Robert Sirico of Carmel, Indiana is the driver of the Corvette that rolled and crashed in the video. I might have missed it earlier on, but in some later posts, he mentioned that he also had four broken ribs.

He also did report that a few days after the crash, he had a siezure, and this is what prompted him to get an MRI. The MRI told him that he had temporal lobe swelling. He has had a few siezures since then. He has to take medication to control the siezures, but I believe he is now doing ok. He is also happy that this happened to him while he was racing....and he accepts what happened.

He doesn't know why the back of the car broke loose, but said that he could see the other skid marks as he was sliding sideways.

He did get the car repaired ($17,000+ in cash - no insurance), but won't be racing anytime soon.

Sorry, I should have been more precise with my facts!

I see this type of injury all of the time. As we age our brain shrinks to some extent. There are veins that span from the brain to its surrounding tissue. Shearing forces from what seem like minor injuries rupture those veins and they bleed slowly. Very few symptoms occur until enough blood builds up in the skull to compress certain areas of the brain. Typically 1-2 weeks after the incident. Most can be treated with drainage or a shunt. Hope that guy does alright.

Small world... I bought my open-trailer from Robert Sirico. Nice guy. It's good to hear that is hasn't affected his life too much, but not too good to hear that he can't race. I saw that Vette in his shop when I went to get the trailer - he was very proud of it. Shame.
