OK, with all the "discussion" about the S2000's tires and accidents I think it's safe to say that we could definately use a safety FAQ. I would envision the purpose of the FAQ to point out areas where owners could improve both their enjoyment and safety when driving the car.

Here are some topics for inclusion, in no particular order:

- RWD/mid-engine design and consequences
- OEM Tire selection, performance, and limitations (plus alternatives?)
- Driving in poor weather conditions
- Performance driving lessons (what, where and why)
- Trailing Throttle Steering

I'm sure there are others, please feel free to suggest them!

I can't say I have the knowledge to accurately write about any of these, however if others would volenteer to take on one or more topics I could handle coordination and merging into the FAQ.

I think some folks have already spent a lot of time writing on these topics - we just have to harvest them out of the existing posts.

Good suggestion. I'd also suggest calling it a series of "Driving Technique" FAQs so we don't get the inevitable whining about how the car is perfect and the drivers are crap.

please include a section on trailing throttle oversteer since that seems to be a common cause of incidents (no shock given the FWD->RWD issues).

This is the type of post that just fans the fire. Noone has said the car is perfect. It's impossible to make a perfect car. In fact, I'd be willing to bet you that if you asked any of us who defend this car when people blame the car for their accidents we'd all say it wasn't perfect. This car is a purpose built car. It has been optimized for certain conditions so when you drive in lesser conditions you need to compensate. That's the message. Please don't distort it.

By the way, if anyone wants to send me URL's for posts that seem relevant for harvesting, please do so. I am unable to perform searches (something about a 5 second rule being broke...) so I am way handicapped when trying to find things in these forums.

i'm not sure i love the idea of having a FAQ on how to drive my car... if you want to wring the most out of your car, and learn about what it means to have RWD, i suggest a driving school... opinions are just that - this isn't a classroom, and i don't want to be the one to advise someone how to properly distribute weight through a turn, only to have them screw it up and come back to me. perhaps a 'use at your own risk' disclaimer would be appropriate on the FAQ, if they did one... just some ideas.

RWD/mid-engine design and consequences
Uhh I don't care how far back some of the magazines say the motor has to be before it is mid-engined -- but when I open the hood (that's the big opening on the front of the car) and see a motor (as is the case with the s2000) I call that a front engined car....

I'm thinking more along the lines of safety, for instance:

1.1 Tires: The stock S02' are great dry weather tires, but they have limited feedback before loosing grip and perform poorly in wet conditions.

Another one would be to suggest a driving school, hopefully also being able to recommend some around the country.

Good idea on the disclaimer tho, the US is way too sue happy
