By that reasoning there are only front and rear engined cars, because none of the "mid engine" cars have their engines in the true middle...that's where you sit. In terms of traditional definitions, the S2000 is as mid engine as my Bertone...both have the engines in the same location ... it's just at the other end of the car.

I hear what you're saying, but the fact is next time you lift the hood on the S2000, have good look at that engine position. The WHOLE of the engine is actually behind a line taken through the front wheel centres.
It's a truer mid engined car than many rear mounted engines where the weight is often over or, partly over, the back axle.

Jim:

Yes. A pic please. Y'know I'll never understand for the life of me why some of your guys are so scathing about American classic cars like the 'vette, Trans Am etc. The Mustang comes in for particular vitriol!!! They're so evocative of an era that's maybe gone, but what wonderful cars. Ridiculous to compare them to a modern roadster!

I don't think so, at PPIR the two Corvette's I looked at had the engine mounted over the front wheels. If I remember correctly, about 75% behind, 25% in front. But some good pics would be helpful

Perhaps, but 25% of the transmission is behind the back wheels.

Here's the best one I can find:

I think its a great idea. Include the influence of LSD (you know what I mean) on wet / icy conditions.

I'll volunteer to research a topic.
