ive personally owned 2 salvage title cars. honestly, id never do it again. my first car which was an 02 rsx was GREAT. no problems and couldnt even tell it was salvage. also its also very hard to get a loan from the bank for a salvage title car. so you pretty much need the cash on hand. as for my WRX which was salvage title, that was completely a different story. many things were not working, paint didnt match, missing parts, it was just a bad car. as for pricing, you will never find a salvage title at 50% of kbb. its more like 30% off usually. you can still get insurance coverage and things like that but i stuck to liability.

in the end i ended up with a Cleartitle s2000 full coverage so im happy. DONT GET SALVAGE TITLES unless its a theft recovery. then it might work out for you.

if i could get reasonable insurance & did not plan to re sell i would have a preference for a salvage car.

-more fun at the track
-lower cost
-i would do the rebuild myself

salvage units w/ front colisioin usally have the frame rails bent, a bad.

in the denver area s2k's are expensive and just shopping out of state really saved cash. so question: why bother with a salvage car? only if the price is right. buy a regular title with a little higher miliage?

Did some more research today and the theft recovery salvage title cars in the bay area I found range from $15k-21K way to much money although most of them do seem to have much lower than average mileage. ...doing so I also realized there really are a lot of them around here.

I also spoke to a guy that had his car stolen out of the garage a couple of weeks after bringing it home. Said they took his car and another one in his complex. They found both with the same items missing.

This is one of the fears I have and the primary reason I thought a salvage car might be a good option...the less I spend the less I have to worry about. I would hate to come home and see my garage open and empty knowing I was now out a 22k car.

Maybe I should just get the M Roadster I was looking at.....nobody seems to steal those things.

You can get it financed with a division of Capital One (People's First). You can get complete insurance coverage through either AAA or Farmer's.
