Mine is a 2000 with 27k miles and it's got a Theft Title. The car was broken into and the seats were stolen. I've got about 7k into the car and I feel that when I decide to sell it I could get at at least 10k for it.

It's funny though. People will check the Car Fax or Auto Report on a cleanly titled car, notice it has been in accidents that did not total the car, and then ask for a lower price because of the accidents. The price that they ask for is generally pretty close to a salvage cars worth. I see things like Insurance Auctions and salvage cars in general a really nice way for people to obtain a car at a beautiful price, drive it, and still make it out even or even at a profit. People love to say, "Oh you don't know what has happened to the car, it could have tons of problems, it could be worthless." But isn't that true with almost every car?

Exactly, the value of these cars is in the drive train and suspension. If the car is used, you have no idea how many times the previous owner over revved the engine, ground the gears while shifting, heck, even bad pot holes can seriously mess up a car, without totaling it. Id much rather replace a bent headlight bracket or get an alignment than have a messed up engine. Although, to be fair, we dont know how a salvage car was treated before the wreck either.

Well, what I mean is, If after you buy the salvage title car, if you get into an accident, the insurance company pays you by a percent, so say If we both have an s2k, and crash it with the same insurance, and mine is salvage, I will get less of a payout than you.
Or something of that sort, I dont know the proper insurance talk, lol

Since were on the topic,
We all know kbb prices are outrageous. Well this guy put up a salvaged s2k up for 11k. its an 02 with 98,000 miles.
The kbb value for the car is 12k. Which is on the upper end.
From what is said above, at 50% of 12k is 6k. Is this guy offering way too much, just because its lowered with rims?
What should I offer him if I decide to buy the car?
Let me know if you want me to post the link (dont go and buy the car now )
Id say it depends on where the damage was and how it was repaired. Thats why i took pics, to document exactly what was broken. Also, unless you really love the rims and suspension, you can pick up a used stock set of both for $500 total so if hell take more off and keep them, id go that route. I tend to lowball when i buy, cuz you can always go up, but i have yet to meet a seller who will let you negotiate down from your previous offer

If youre in California let me sell you mine instead Less miles, its an 03, and bone stock.
Nah, Florida.
Heres the car,

I Think if I decide to buy, Ill offer him 6k and show him this thread, or talk to him about salvage worth.
And I do like the rims, lol

Hmm, Florida, that could be a fun drive Thats the thing about this car, everything seems to be in driving distance now

That car looks horrible...

Lol how?

My s2000 is a theft salvage 2004, purchased for $20,000 I believe, several years ago. The KBB value for a non-salvaged similar condition was around $30,000 at that time for the equivalent car.

The whole salvage title thing is over-rated if you know what actually happened to the vehicle. Mine has a salvaged title which burned my ass because there was nothing "really" messed up on the car. Replaced front fender, control arm, headlights, wheel, etc etc. No airbag went off. The estimate came it at 6k and they valued my car at 7.5k because it had 200k miles on it. No reason for salvage title in my opinion, but that is how the game works. I ended up buying the car back and putting 11k into it for repairs plus new upgraded top, shocks and brakes all the way around, replaced both headlights so they matched, and new paint for the whole car. I would be offended if someone tried to offer me 30-50% less than a non-salvaged car!!! But then again, I would never sell mine so it really doesn't matter

Hi,
I feel everyone has a different answer for whether to buy salvage car or not.I think its a good option ,if you are clear with the mutable history of the car and ready to repair or resale it.Also if your budget is less and you need a vehicle then you can go for it. But there is a lot of risk factor in buying salvage car if you don't have sufficient information and as a result you may end up purchasing wrong one.
