Default Salvaged car question?

Ok the kelly blue book on an 01' s2k w/ about 45kmiles is around $15-16k.... So why is that I see people with salvage titles selling there cars for the kelly blue book!?!? I'm 18 right now and have sold my Audi A4 (finally) and I have $12k in my bank. I'm hoping by mid-summer I will have around $17k dollars so I can buy a clean title s2k. But anyways, back to the point, so why are these cars going for so much? Shouldn't an 01' salvaged s2k with around 40kmiles be going for around 10 thousand dollars? Also is it really that bad to buy a slavaged car? I mean if there is no body frame damage or anything like that would it be that bad? I have since 13 years old been working, learning, and dreaming about cars, now the s2k is definitely a car I have big plans for and I would keep it for a long time and probably heavily mod it. So in light that I would have it for a long time and maybe wouldn't care as much about resale value would it be that bad to buy a salvaged title and why are they going for so much?

Thanks in advance. Can't wait to join all of you as an s2k owner!!!

i believed it had around 23~24k miles.. it was a rear end damage.. no frame damage.. i got it from a dealer that specifically went around to find decent salvaged cars and fix it as well as possible and sell it.

no problems so far, i've got 32+k miles on it now, i had some tire damages in the beginning and the dealer fixed it for me.. and absolutely no problem except i hear some nuts or wateverz lose somewhere in the car... SOMEWHERE but i have NO IDEA where and its bothering me...

Dude, if you're gonna have 17K don't bother with a salvage titled vehicle. Get a good one and use the cash as a downpayment. You're pretty much guaranteed a loan with that much to put down.

As far as I understand it, salvage vehicles were so badly damaged that the insurance company felt it would be cheaper to buy a new car. In addition, selling the car will be a pain in the ass. That doesn't mention that banks do not like financing salvage vehicles. I hear certain insurance companies don't feel to fond of them either.

Whatever costs you may have saved by buying salvage will only come back to bite you in the ass. The cars are treated like lepers by dealerships, insurance companies, and banks. I'd bite the bullet and buy used. It'd be worth it in the long run.

buy a salvage if:
-plan to keep it a while andor
-plan mods for the car, take it onto the track etc

i bought mine not salvage last november in NJ 2001, 50Km, $15.4K. there was a salvage 2002 in Seattle for a little less but required some body parts etc. slept in the car but NJ to denver in 2days, no big thing.

a salvage car may be derated 50% from kbb.com, that plus the cost of parts is a hard argument. seems best deals are in the fall for these cars. not so much autotrader.com but some car sites have alot of false adds for s2k's.

s2k's with front body damage seemed to also have frame damage, looked fixable tho, it was the frame past the engine bent. in the cost plus structure the insurance companies work in it is expensive to fix cars. if you got lots of ebay time it is possible to containe the costs
