Shifting at 3k does the trick for me. It is a little rough for me to go from my Jetta to the S2K cause I was getting 45 mpg average in the Jetta and about 450 miles per tank to 25 mpg and about 280 miles per tank, but it's all good. This car wasn't meant to have fuel economy, even though it has outstanding fuel economy compared to others in it's class... so drive it like it's meant to be driven and when you want to save gas, then take it easy... lol.

I had a Dodge Ram V8 for a weekend to shift some stuff.

12 mpg.

I know a guy in england with a diesel golf who does all that and more. Gets around 700 miles to a tank.

He sets the cruise control to 56 mpg for his 20 mile commute on a motorway, woe betide that you might open a window. He maintains a complex mpg chart, and has done for the last five cars he's owned.

He gets his enjoyment out of automatic wipers, I get mine from oversteer slides. Each to their own.

25 mpg or so from my S2000 so far, I do wish it was a little more economical, but not if it mean't less fun. After all, I'm used to paying around $8 a gallon int he uK.

If you can figure out how to have fun driving your S2000 AND save fuel

Btw.. I haven't seen that Mythbusters episode yet
And it's my favorite show!
Is that one of a new series?
Yea i love that show too. They had two F150s fill up and the one with the tailgate up went about 30 miles further before running out of fuel. apparently when the tailgate is up, a pocket of slow-moving air gets trapped in the bed pushes the flow of air that comes over the roof of the car to flow over the bed and tailgate. whereas with the tailgate down, there is no pocket of air to deflect the airflow up and over the truck so the airflow comes down over the roof and hits the bed causing drag and downforce. they used a toy truck in a tank full of flowing water and oats to demonstrate this.
