SCCA Autocross
Hey guys went to my first ever autocross to day held by the SCCA in lexington,ky. I didn't run my car but there was a red S2k there along with one C5, about 6 turbocharged miatas, mustangs, rx-7.etc. I had fun and i'm gonna run my car in one. It was very interesting to watch...just as fun as drag racing.
you should take a fun run with someone or even try to participate next time. I highly encourage it. very different than drag racing. for one thing, you move your mirrors so you dont look behind you, you dont need to worry about other traffic, you dont look at the other car, its legal, and you get more seat time (stop light racing = ~10 second seat time; autox = ~1min to 1.5 min seat time). that's my take. =)

You can either get a license from SCCA and pay $5 less per event that you drive. Or you can pay the $5 extra per event for a "day" license.
Last time I raced it was $25 per person to race... plus the $5 day license if you needed one.
Note that there is a difference between official SCCA events and the numerous events held by local sports car clubs. I have attended autocrosses run by 3 different local clubs and none of them require an SCCA license. If you are a member of their club you get a $5 discount and the pricing is about the same as RWD_RCKT reported - ranging from $15-30 per event.
I've attended 1 SCCA national event, but we didn't need a license because my club sponsored the event.
Autocrossing is a lot of fun! Try it out. Don't forget your helmet!

There is a Solo II license, but I've never seen it required at any regional or divsional level Solo II event I've attended. As I remember (and my memory isn't always that good), it may give you more liability insurance coverage at an event, but beyond that I'm not sure what function it serves. Joining the SCCA, however, usually gets you a discounted price at SCCA sponsored events.

According to the SCCA web site the Solo II license is "voluntary" and entitles the bearer to an additional $500,000US of "catastrophic medical insurance coverage." If any of you are interested you can find the form on the SCCA web site
