I have a small cloth detailing brush that I keep in the car and I noticed a lot of pollen and dust in front of the steering wheel sitting atop the little shelf in front of the gagues. I didn't know this before using it, but the top of the brush had a tiny bit of metal that was protruding out (it's like a big pipe cleaner with cloth bristles). I started to brush away the dust when I poked the glass (or is it hard plastic?) by accident and it left a 2 inch scratch right above the RPM gague at about the 7500 mark. Am I screwed, or can this be buffed out somehow? What kind of costs would I be looking at to replace the glass? It's barely noticeable, BUT I NOTICE IT!

Thanks,

Brett

It's not glass, it's plastic; you might try a cleaner/polish to remove it depending how deep the scratch. Had it been glass, a wire would not have been able to scratch the surface. Meguiars has a clear plastic cleaner/polish (#18) called Mirror Glaze that we use to clean/remove scratches on the plastic rear window. As the ads say, it's available at better auto parts stores everywhere. Good luck, Brett.

Several plastic/plexiglass polishes are available on the market that can help. Unless the scrath is really deep, I'd say chances are pretty good that one of these polishes will work. I use some stuff called "Scratch Out" for plexiglass. Works great on the rear plastic window, AND takes scuff marks out of my clear coat. Thats available at Pep Boys, CSK, and many independent auto parts places. Good luck

If that doesnt work, you can go at it with a Dremal tool with a polishing wheel on it, then with a buffing wheel. It will remove plastic fast, so be careful. And when your done, it will look slightly distorted through the area you polished. But it should look better than gouge.

Brett,

You're a handsome dude and all, but do you have to have such a *huge* pic in your sig? We don't all have high speed access you know. Slows down every thread you post in.

Just my $.02 ...

Try the Meguiars, it says it works on scratched CD's as well.

I don't know what would be involved with changing it but I'm showing that it is only about $30 for the part.
